Carb Suggestions???

HxC240z

Recommended Posts

Hi I have a 73' 240z that I am fixing up and I know little about cars, ...this is a learning experience for me. I have read about the dreaded "flattop" carbs and since mine were not working anyway, I have decided to replace them, but I have no Idea what to replace with. I have found a few kits to exchange them, but I don't know which I should buy so that it works best with my engine(stock L24).Any suggestions????

Here are the links to the options I found:

Weber DGV Carburetor Kit:

Holley Four Barrel Carburetor Conversion: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/PFFC04

or the ztherapy SU "roundtop" rebuilt carbs in the older Z's

if anyone has any other suggestions it would be appreciated

Thanks, Roger

Also if there are any other tell tale problems of these Z's that I should check for I would like to know thanks again

Any of the three will work fine, if set up and adjusted correctly. My preference for a stock L24 would also be the round-top SUs.

But to buy them from ZTherapy, you'll need a set to exchange, as ZT's are rebuilt, not new. So you may want to start shopping for a used set, first.

Used ones show up on eBay frequently. I have two pairs now, as the parts car I recently bought still has a set, but I'm not ready to sell them until I find out if they're any good.

Thanks for all the feedback, I thought that Ztherapy had the option of paying a core-Charge too, I will probably opt for SU's off of ebay, I have seen some nice ones on there for cheap.

The triple webers are nice too, but 1,500 carbs don't exactly fit the budget of a 17yr old haha

Round top SU's re the way to go with a stock motor, they will give the best performance of the options you listed. I ran Z therapy's and loved them. I now have triple Mikuni's but I also have a motor that out revs the SU's and is far from stock, but even with a worked over head and a moderate cam the SU's are fine. Be careful with Ebay, the carbs can look great but still be worn out. The ZT carbs are not just rebuilt but improved too. Get the stock needles too, the SM needles will run too rich, my 2.8 ran too rich with them so your 2.4 surely would too.

Are far do you want to go? Would you be interested in a set of triple Dellortos? They're like the Webers, but better at temperature extremes. They are presently running great on my 2.8L and should bolt right up to any Z six cylinder. I'm using the car as a daily driver (or as often as the weather is decent) and would prefer the Z Therapy SUs.
