rtaylor Posted July 22, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 22, 2006 Hi all. Hope everybody is having a good summer so far. 106 today. WhewI just bought rebuilt calipers from MSA. I also bought the Nissan brake hardware package for the calipers. When I unwrapped the rebuilt calipers, they also had hardware, however there was one extra part, besides the shims that came in the package. I gave them the old calipers without breaking them down, so I didn't actually get a good look at how the parts went together.I can figure most of it out except the rebuilt caliper has what appears to be a tension rod/spring, that is not in the Nissan hardware kit. It looks like this goes on top of the antisqueal retainers and is secured by the pins. Is this correct? Do I need to include this rod/spring when I put everything together? Thanks for your advice. I looked in the FSM and Chiltons but did not see this piece, so I am thinking it is a newer ( newer than the FSM anyway) engineering addition. Arne Posted July 22, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 22, 2006 I'm pretty sure the even the early cars came with these originally. My '71 has them, as does the '71 parts car I bought recently. You've pretty much figured it out, the center slides over the tad on the pad backing plate, and the ends go under the pins. This is the only picture I could find in a hurry, sorry it's not more clear.
rtaylor Posted July 22, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted July 22, 2006 Thanks again Arne. I saw that picture in the FSM but it is not clear as the spring rod is so thin.
