toecutter Posted July 24, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 24, 2006 A friend at work has decided to build a slot car track in his garage. Over the past few weeks he's been showing me some of the cars and pics of the track. I thought it would be fun to build a car in 1/32 scale from scratch based on my real car. So eventually I found one on e-bay and I'm waiting for delivery. I've added a pic of the resin moulded car and a similar track that my friends building in his garage. Will post pics of the car when painted up in red with ZG flares, big wheels and rear fin.

toecutter Posted July 24, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted July 24, 2006 Yer the track my friends putting together is about 90% complete but he's actually fixed it so that the bottom of the track is the ceiling of his double garage and connected heavy duty electric motor which comes down when needed and wala the hidden track exposed. Actually quite cool!
1972zed Posted July 24, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 24, 2006 that is too cool. I am also into slotcars and z's. what scale is that resin body? 1/24? there is a 1/32 slotcar available... SCX, I believe. It is based on a 260z but close enough for me.
ChrisA Posted July 25, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2006 After reading this thread this morning, I thought I'd share an eBay find of mine from a few years ago. Its a Cox Super Scale Datsun 260Z Item #3505 slot car. Box is dated 1974 which is appropriate I guess for the USA. Its never been run but since its a Z I got it for the display shelf. Thanks for sharing your friends setup, very nice. I love retro stuff. Chris A.

SCX, I believe. It is based on a 260z but close enough for me. The body is 1/32. The plan is to make it a copy of my real Z. Not sure about where to find or how to make the little front airdam and rear fin though!??? Chris, I'd be tempted to find a public track to take that car to! kollemic Posted July 25, 2006 Share #7 Posted July 25, 2006 I too collect slot cars. Mostly HO scale (1:87).In that scale I know AFX had a few different 240Z including a '71 BreIdeal had a TCR type car that was a 280ZX painted similar to the BreI know Tyco had a datsun/nissan, but I'm not sure what model.Thats all I could think of off the top of my head. All my cars and books are behind a pile of junk in the basement right now.
1972zed Posted July 25, 2006 Share #8 Posted July 25, 2006 slot cars were a bit of a diversion for me after I sold my first Z car. Then my brother a 57 chev nut convinced me that instead of dumping my money into toy cars, I should get another z. So I did. now I am into slot cars (mostly SCX F-1) and have a z restoration project.:-)
toecutter Posted July 25, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted July 25, 2006 Well I figured I'd just get the car and have a bit of fun with just that for now as I've moved into a new house a couple of months ago and the first priority is renovations and garage for the Z so it does'nt leave much room for a track. Does'nt matter though I will just have to grab the little Z and jump in the big Z and drive over to my friends place!

Chino 240Z Posted August 18, 2006 Share #11 Posted August 18, 2006 Couple times a year we set up the family slot car track and last Saturday we got it out again for my son. The track is the analog type by Ninco, great stick with the texture. I saw last week some of the new digital track and cars but not so sure the system has be de-bugged yet? Family members have a few favorite cars each, they are various types from Scalextric, Ninco & SCX. Still need to find a classic Z race car for the collection.
