Posted August 1, 200618 yr comment_176701 Hi all,can somebody please tell me what's the correct torque for the nuts at the rear differential mounting bolts?I also found two different washers per bolt, a smaller diameter and a bigger diameter. Has the bigger one to be "inside" between the diff. and the "Moustache" or are both washers "outside" between the nut and the Moustache bar? Thanks for infos!Rolf Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21026-diff-rear-mounting-bolts/ Share on other sites

August 1, 200618 yr Author comment_176704 Zbane, sorry, you are right. It's a '72 240Z model with a R 180 3,9 differential.Concerning the bigger washer I have in my mind that Nissan dealers did something against noise and vibrations. Was this the bigger washer? August 1, 200618 yr comment_176737 Rolf, I've never seen a washer in between the diff cover and mounting bar. I have had these bolts loosen during racing, and tend to dab a little loctite to prevent loosening. Mine have been one flat washer between bolt head and backside of mounting bar. August 1, 200618 yr Author comment_176739 Thanks David, the two washer astonished me, too. I will use the bigger one and Loctite.Nevertheless, if i have to much torque I can get in troubles and with too less, too. In Haynes I couldn't find the torque info for the rear nuts, that's why I ask for help here.Rolf Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21026-diff-rear-mounting-bolts/#findComment-176739 Share on other sites
August 1, 200618 yr comment_176745 I'm pretty certain that rear diff bolts are 60-70 ft pounds....Although quite honestly, I've never used a torque wrench on those bolts. May be the reason I've had problems in the past!!!David Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21026-diff-rear-mounting-bolts/#findComment-176745 Share on other sites
