TomoHawk Posted August 6, 2006 Author Share #13 Posted August 6, 2006 How can the belt be glazed? It's a new belt.
mlc240z Posted August 6, 2006 Share #14 Posted August 6, 2006 i'm thinking if it were loose and slipping everytime you heard it, it wouldn't take long to burnish the belt. just something to check with the belt dressing to eliminate it and help narrow it down. sblake01 Posted August 6, 2006 Share #15 Posted August 6, 2006 Belt dressing is just a lazy, quick fix and actually shortens belt life. Proper adjustment is the only correct thing to do there.
mlc240z Posted August 6, 2006 Share #16 Posted August 6, 2006 agreed Stephen, just using as a diagnostic to eliminate glazed belt.
TomoHawk Posted August 9, 2006 Author Share #17 Posted August 9, 2006 It was a slightly loose belt. As tight as it seemed, it wasn't tight enough. Now for the brake squeal, & the radio is funny (more 'sounds' to chase down & fix.)
RogerZ Posted August 10, 2006 Share #18 Posted August 10, 2006 On my 83 na it would squeak a little on cold days. Finally got tired of that took up little more tension on belt problem go away. Also have heard that the viscous clutch on the cooling fan sounds like that also. Not sure which years had the viscous clutch. apparently you can take the thing apart once you get it off the vehicle and replace the fluid in there. sblake01 Posted August 10, 2006 Share #19 Posted August 10, 2006 He's already solved it. On a 83 or any Z with factory air and/or power steering which rules out anything prior to 1979, you could also get a squeal from one of the idler pulley/belt tensioners. The viscous clutch is on basically all Z's (originally)and most other cars as well. Replacing the fluid can be done but it's easier to just replace the fan clutch. I've done it both ways with mixed results as I don't think the fluid (oil) you can buy now days is the same as what Nissan used. That procedure has been discussed a few times on this site.
