Posted August 4, 200618 yr comment_177149 Today is my first day of vacation. Took thurs. Fri. Mon. Tues. off work and I couldn't wait to enjoy my beautiful Z over my long, perfect weather weekend and I went to fire her up this afternoon to take a nice drive and I noticed she started a little rough, then I noticed a fuel smell Sure enough, pop the hood and saw a massive fuel leak. It was puddling up on the intake and dripping onto the ground. At first It was tough to locate and I was thinking what the hell??? until I slightly pressed on the fuel pipe and sure enough as I did this, fuel was spraying out of the weld of the fuel pipe where it T's off and goes to the cold start valve. No big deal. I'll have to order it up and replace it but kinda bummed me out as I was looking forward to going cruising over my vacation but it could be worse Thanks for listening to me vent I'm just damn glad I cought it before driving it. Could have resulted in a big fire :nervous: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21062-well-im-majorly-bummed/ Share on other sites

August 4, 200618 yr Author comment_177153 Thanks Enigma. Yeah, she's original so it was on borrowed time I guess. funny thing is she was perfect the last time I had it out last weekend and had NO leaks. Must have been weak then when I last shut it off during the cool down process is when the hair line fracture happened. Thats my guess anyways. I'm going to replace everything All new fuel pipes A-D, new injectors with new top & bottom 0 rings and new plastic holders (which I already have purchased ) I already did the rubber hoses with new Nissan hose clamps. I just want to redo it ALL so I don't have this wonderful surprise happen again . It will be hard to enjoy a vacation without the Z but I'll manage Just have to order my parts now so I can get her fixed up:) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21062-well-im-majorly-bummed/#findComment-177153 Share on other sites
August 4, 200618 yr comment_177239 Hey DZR Could you post a picture of the troubled part when you get it out. Ild like to see it. I sympathyze with your situation, Ild be disappointed as well, but like you said better like this than watching flames roll out through the hood vents on a freeway. Lucked out. August 5, 200618 yr Author comment_177248 Well I could but you probably won't be able to see it. It's a very small and I mean very very small hair line crack. Why are you having issues with yours too? Yeah, when I saw my leak I said to myself "Well so much for taking my Z out" Then I parked her back in the garage Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21062-well-im-majorly-bummed/#findComment-177248 Share on other sites
August 5, 200618 yr comment_177293 The biggest problem i have with mine is the little rubber links on the fuel rails cracking. Every summer I have to replace a few. So far this year I've had 2. Last year it was about 4 and the fuel pressure regulator. It deveolped a leak too. It sucks cuz it drips right on the exhaust manifold. I was gonna take the fuel rails off my 79 engine and switch em out since it doesn't have all the rubber links. Its solid. Sorry about your luck. Hope you can get yours fixed up soon. August 5, 200618 yr Author comment_177306 The rubber fuel hoses that connect the fuel pipes should hold up longer than a year. Are you using the correct rubber fuel hoses? They MUST be ones that are made for High Pressure. If your running plain old rubber fuel hoses then yes, they will burst or crack every year as the regular rubber hoses are not strong enough to handle the high pressure so that could be a possible cause. Yeah, I'm not one to procrastinate when it comes to my Z I e-mailed Courtesy Nissan and told them what I needed so I can go at it and get it done. August 10, 200618 yr Author comment_177858 Hey Chris. No unfortunately. I feel like I have been educating courtesy Nissan They have even asked me to e-mail my diagrams to them and I can't get them to e-mail  They sent me there diagram so I edited theres for them by color coding the pipes I needed and labeled them then re-sent it back to them. I'm now waiting for there reply. I never thought I'd have to go through so much hell to get a couple fuel pipes . They are good people there though. They don't give up and want to try and make sure they get you the right parts. Just a lot of work on my end though. When I do get the parts, I'll try and get photos up. August 10, 200618 yr comment_177864 Don't feel too bad man. At least yours runs. On top of that, I was skimming my car to fill all the imperfections and I didn't use enough hardener and now I have to scrape the entire drivers side and the roof and start over again, so I won't be in paint this week. Hope you get your car fixed. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21062-well-im-majorly-bummed/#findComment-177864 Share on other sites
August 10, 200618 yr Author comment_177867 "At least yours runs" Well not really. Can't run it with a fuel leak under the hood. I don't want me or my Z to blow up Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21062-well-im-majorly-bummed/#findComment-177867 Share on other sites
