I was trolling ebay tonight and found this:

I wonder if the seller will sell any-I have #194 of 300 that were hand signed-if I remember correctly, still rolled up in its shipping container from the printing company with the Certificates of Authenticity and Registration. My garage isn't suitable for hanging this, or the large Dealer Issue version of the Dream Garage poster and the Ad enlargements I have-but then the car isn't ready yet either.

I also noticed ZCCA.org expired on 7/29/06! Somebody must have goofed!

I only recently acquired a signed poster with the certificate of authenticity and registration papers and like yourself, was under the impression that there were only 300 copies of the poster signed by Mr Katayama. Mine is also still in a protective container so that I can preserve it until it is properly framed - you are right, too good an item to riske being damaged or contaminated in a garage.

However, the item description says that this item is #1995 of the batch and

"Originally a limited edition of 2000 framable art print on heavy stock paper and individually signed by Mr. Yutaka Katayama (the father of the Z car), these are a great Datsun Nissan collectable for any true Z car fan."

Am I not understanding something here?

I know there were two versions of the poster available when I bought mine. I did choose the more limited edition, but honestly I don't remember exactly what the differences were-but I would not have opted for the more exclusive of the two without a reason.

Yeah, I noticed that the zcca.org web site is 'gone.'

Polished ZX 6-spoke? I have those on my 280Z, and I would never polish the spokes; just sand the machining grooves out. Maybe 1000 grit at the finest. I painted the insets on the spokes too.

Has he actually sold any at that price? I haven't noticed any "go"...

I have seen used wheel sets going for $100-250 depending on condition and shipping charges, and polished sets going for $250-300, but too many sellers charge way to much to ship wheels...

I wonder what is up with the ZCCA-if feel certian they could refresh our memories of the differences in the posters.

Hi Will / everyone:

I have A/P #3 of 300 - These are the "Artists Proof's"

I have #2 of 2000 - as well as several others...(#260 my IZCC Membership Number, #42 for HLS30 00042,.. etc).

While these were made via an Offset Printing Process... they were cleverly marketed like they were lithographs (or serigraphs). When a lithograph is made from an original piece of Art... the Artists actually redraws the artwork by hand on one or more silk screens.... this may involve three or more silk screens before all the colors are put down. Because the silk screens do wear out - the first prints made are always the best quality... Artists Proof's are usually limited to 10 or 15 at most...

With high quality offset printing - they could have ran 10,000 of them and the actual quality would have been the same for all of them.. The images are simply pictures of the original artwork.

Yea Gad... I'd love to see these selling at $400.00 - I've given a few away to friends over the years.

As I recall - they sold them at the 1996 Convention for around $50.00 for the Prints and $75.00 for the more limited A/P's. It was a way of raising money for the Convention expenses. Might be worth $150.00 by now...

That did refresh my memory, I want to say the AP series had even heavier paper, and a couple of other features that were different from the larger series.

I figure 2,300 copies of paper based art made available to the general population of Z enthusiasts probably would not have appreciated that much-now if the copies were highly desireable early series one or JDM parts....

Thanks Will and Carl - really appreciate the clarification you bring to my mind in this matter. I searched for, but could not find, any previous posts on the ZCCA posters when I was thinking of buying my own copy so this is information I personally value.

I am not at home at the moment so I am unable to check my own copy but I think I remember that purchasers could send in the registration page to the ZCCA and have their ownership of their copy registered by that body.

Do you know if Mr Katayama actually personally signed 2300 individual copies of the poster or did he only sign the 300 "AP" copies and have his signature copied on the other 2000 prints?

It will be interesting to see how this auction proceeds and whether this listing might see other similar items listed.
