Air Conditioner woooos

Good afternoon everyone. I am in need of your help again. This weekend took the z out for a ride and it got hot so put the tee tops back on and turned on the ac unit. The air was only coming out of the floor vents. Switched the controller over to vent then heat and then defrost and still only out via the floor.

I have removed the radio and the air flow contoller. When I push this http://s56.photobucket.com/albums/g195/whew41/?action=view&current=CIMG0685.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch2

The air flows moves like it should but not via the controls http://s56.photobucket.com/albums/g195/whew41/?action=view&current=CIMG0684.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch3

It looks like the vaccum lines connect to this http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g195/whew41/CIMG0686.jpg

So not sure where to proceed from here. Please advise.

Thanks

Jim

First is this an automatic or a manual ac? (what is the vin#)

I suspect a vacuum problem either in the lines or the actuators.

If you have a FSM, check the toubleshooting section for the algorythm, if not, pm me your vin and an email address and I will send you what I can find on your car.

That third picture appears to be of a mode door actuator. I'm not that familiar with ac on a ZX but it looks similar to what's on my 810. If you're not getting proper vaccum to those due to a bad hose or the actuator itself it would cause the problem you describe.

How are the vacuum line/lines that come out the firewall? Usually one or two become brittle. crack or disconnected. They hook up to a vacuum tank on the pass side strut tower.

Darrel,

I did check the vaccum lines where they come out of the firewall all the way to the A/C vacuum tank and they are in good shape. Not sure where to proceed from here?

Hooray success. I was able to find the vacuum line that was leaking. Right before the ac vacuum tank the lines were taped together and once I removed the tape I saw the hole. Replaced the line and now the AC works like a champ. Only problem here in North Carolina it is only 69 today, which is rare, but I am ready for the heat again.....Thanks to all that helped me on this one......

Yeah, I figured that your problem was vacuum oriented. Either the actuators themselves, or the lines. Went through that with my 810. The one thing I do like about the aftermarket air on my 78 280Z is that all you have to do is move levers to open and close vents and vavles. No vacuum involved.
