Posted August 11, 200618 yr comment_178010 Going to strip it down to the bone this weekend, anyone interested in helping out for FREE BEER & PIZZA? Send me a PM. Found it off craig's list listed for $400, but the guy needed to sell asap so I got it for $250! Unfortunatly I am going to use it as a parts car. The two doors and hatch have very minor surface rust which I am take off and put on my 'silver' Z. Interior seats have no tears. I hope the engine and tranny are good too. Eventually, I will gather a list of parts I will not need and will offer up for sale. August 11, 200618 yr comment_178033 I really need a gas cap! If you'd like to donate to the "Ian needs a gas cap so he can drive his car fund", let me know, thanks. August 11, 200618 yr comment_178037 Curtis is right. Fix the better car and cannibalize the lesser car. It may sound insensitive, since I know you want to fix the silver one, but it may be cheaper in the long run to fix the "parts car" if it's in better shape.my 2 cents. August 11, 200618 yr Author comment_178071 There are pluses and minuses from each car. I believe the red car might have more rust since It has been sitting outside for years and my silver car has been garaged for the last 18. But we'll see when the tear down starts today! Also the red car has no title and no key.Ian, I don't think the gas cap from the 77-78 cars will fit a 71. August 11, 200618 yr comment_178112 Definitely put up a post if youre going to part out anything on your "new" car!!! I'd be very interested in the lower front valence, gas cap door and maybe a headlight bucket if youre not using them and the parts are better than what I currently have. Keep us posted. I may have all three of those pieces for you! I'll have to check them all out once I get them off the car. The right headlight bucket looks good, but the left one is smashed. I will get you better pics. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21144-just-picked-up-my-2nd-78-280z/#findComment-178187 Share on other sites
August 12, 200618 yr comment_178262 Alissa,Don't sell those hood vents. As you see in Misc, the vents are hard to come by and there's no replacements available. Ya gotta keep some stuff off the parts car for back-up/spares. Ya gotta keep some stuff off the parts car for back-up/spares.I suppose you are right. I am still trying to decide which parts I should keep as spares.... just in case. Not worth letting parts go for cheap if they are small enough to store in my basement. August 13, 200618 yr comment_178272 Especially keep the small stuff like cold start valves, thermotime swithches, relays, door lock clips, etc. They're easy to test for functionality and getting harder to find.
