Is chassis worth saving

I would say a no because you can always fine a good shell somewhere that would be less hassle and less money trouble. Unless you just like taking on body projects.Lets hear from some other Z gurus that know much more than me( a novice).

I would actually say yes. You can save it. You can replace the floor pans, rear valence, and rear deck lid easily. You can get all of those replacement panels very easily. The battery tray might just have surface rust, so I'd take a wire wheel to it and see what's really wrong with it. You have a solid rear deck (spare tire well etc.) and that's harder to find now a days. If you repair the rust on the chassis and POR-15 it, you should be sitting pretty. How is the actual body of the car, because if the body panels are really bad, you either have a lot of replacing to do, or you may need a new shell.

Sorry, but I've got to say no too. From the pictures it looks like there's pretty intensive rust in the frame and body and that's just what you see from the outside. If you look inside the rocker panels, dog leg, inner fenders, etc. there's got to be more. If you're planning to do all the work yourself, and don't mind spending the time, then I'd say maybe. Either way, you could find a better starting point for a restoration and be in for a lot less time and effort.

Unfortunately this is a crusher unless you are good with a welder, have several thousand dollars and 1000 hours to spare. Strip it and save what's worth saving then find another candidate to begin with.

Its fixable, just depends on whether you want to spend the money or not. 26th's #27 was alot worse than that.

Yes, that chassis can be saved. Why do you want to? I think I have two good excuses. What's yours?

26th has been collectively that bad over her years and to stop the same condition your car is in, I had to dip her - inside and out. I plan to dip 27th as well. The dip was around $1,600 and body prep, welding, new metal and primer was around $5,700. Now it is time for paint and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the whole body will cost less than $10,000. I did all the grunt work - grinding, sanding, scrubbing, sealing, and sweeping the floor - provided beer for months on end and expect to have the body shell in brand new condition when I am finished.

Chris brings up a good point. It might be worth it to you for a specific reason like it was your first car, your child was conceived in it, or perhaps its a very low number car that will one day be worth all that it would cost to bring her back to her former glory. However, if none of that is the case, I stand behind my original statement.

It was a good idea posting the pics for other opinions (I had a look at em earlier). I'll call Mike at Whitehead on Monday and see if he know of any shells in the area. Your best bet is still a trip south!

I am sorry that I didn't see any thing there worth saving . Other that the battery tray and spare tire tub . Too far gone to be practical to save . Unless you want to prove a point. Just remove the battery tray and drive another Z under it. Gary:cry:
