Rear dogleg looks ominous. Usual appearance of the lower front fender (rusting from water trapped inside.) Probably the same for the rockers, although without peeling up the vinyl and checking it, it's tough to say...

Filler on the hood? Looks like it to me, right there on the nose.

I say even money there's a set of floorpans in the future for this car, as mine looked similar overall and needed them replaced...

Z's rust from within (like most old cars), so multiply what you see by 5 and add in new floorpans, and that's about right. Buying a Z like this blind (without examining in person), hoping it's rust-free is...uh...poorly thought out, to say it politely.

The car doesn't appear to be too bad. It would be nice to see some underside pictures. IMO the description is on the very light side; to me that leaves a lot of quesions. The price is getting "up there" for what it appears to be - $3550 at this moment and the reserve has not been met -. I would guess the reserve is set somewhere around $4300, (just a guess based on the buy-it-now price). Personally I wouldn't want to commit that much money to a deal where the description leaves me wondering. It might be worth contacting the seller to see how up front he will be with more information. Consider what questions you have, then give him a call. Trust me, if you listen to what's being said - and how it's being said, you will walk away either feeling good about buying it or you'll be glad you didn't get further involved. The listing invites calls, so give him a ring.

Your main wish is for a clean body - IMO you could probably do better if you wait and search for just that, a nice clean body. That baby is starting to perc in places and there will be work to do (I speak from experience having bought one that looked somewhat better but it will be requiring attention in some of the same places that that one is showing distress).There was a pretty nice body for sale here in the classifieds not too long ago... it was stripped, blasted, etc., and you could really see what work was needed. Location in relation to where you are could add a substantial contribution to your final total - or, if you are close, your savings in transportation could work to your bidding advantage.

All that's just my opinion, and I'm sure others here may have different thoughts. That's what makes this place great; we have an opportunity to get good advice from several different perspectives.

Jeff , from the pictures the overall looks of the car is not bad. However in the pictures showing blistering paint . This is rust through from the back side . I agree that the floor pans most likely will need replacing as well as the rockers . I would recommend that the rocker be done BEFORE any new painting is done. Just filling the holes and moving on should not be an option as the rust will keep coming through and the rockers are an important part of the uni body. I wouldn't qualify this car as a parts car , it is vary doable . Much depends on your ability to do the work or being able to afford the repair costs. Floors and rockers alone your are looking at around 3K . If you can find a good custom body shop that knows what they are doing . And you haven't started with any thing else . Like brakes, suspension , tires . The engine is another question . I just read DeesZ post and I think he said it vary well . A dash will run $500.+ also. You didn't say where you live and shipping can be a big HIT . Gary:rambo:

How much have you budgeted for the initial purchase and what are your plans for the car in the long term? Depending on the answer, this may be a decent purchase if you can get it for less than $3600. Unfortunately it looks like the auction will go over that as it's nearly there already and the Buy it Now price is fairly high.

Assuming that the frame rails are not too bad it is probably safe to drive for now, but the rust will have to be eliminated or it soon won't be. The problem is that this is where the biggest cost will be. As indicated in previous posts, you can expect to pay $3000-$5000 for rust repairs and that doesn't include body work and paint.

I bought mine from a seller on eBay after losing the auction as the high bidder due to a failure to meet the reserve. I then contacted the seller directly, went and saw the car, and negotiated a fair price which was $200 above my max bix on eBay. However, after seeing the car in person and having a chance to inspect is, I realized that this was a bargain and we both walked away happy.

Be patient. The right one will come along.

Looks good. You really cant tell how bad the rust is from a couple of photos. It has rust in the usual places, but that may be the only places it has rust. You wont know untill you strip the car. Just because there is a little rust doesnt mean its all rusty. My 240z had rust in the rear doglegs, and front of the sills too, but has the most solid rust free floors that you could hope for.

Its been repainted though, so that can hide alot of the problems.

You'd really want to inspect it in person for that much money, or at least get the owner to send you photos of the floors from inside and out and take a chance.

The car itself dosn't look that bad. I do agree that the price is starting to get up there. But it all depends on wheather you thinks it's worth it and how much you like the car. If poosible arange to view the car and see if it's worth it, or see how much the car gets up to in the last minutes of bidding.

I currently have a parts car and have 2 motors, Because of my profession mechanical is not a big to do But I need a good clean body. If you know of one please lass it on . I live in Toronto and going to the upper US is not a big deal for the right body. I am budgeting about 10-12k complete.

That Z is a clone of my Orange 1972 240Z. I bet the floors, rockers, rear qtr, front fenders + wheel wells all have rust damage.

With any luck my 240Z will be navy blue in the next couple of weeks.

The EBay 240 seems to be too expensive.

Jeff, there is 2 for sale in the Ontario Zee car classifieds, have you checked them out. Both are west coast cars and within a hours drive from Toronto. Eric is near Barrie has a 71 California car,recently E-Bay,d not sure if it sold.I know of a 72 rust free in Caledon for sale,asking 8k,needing only a driver.I just purchased a 240,told rust free needing paint, have not seen the car yet but the price was right , I can,t keep 2 so I will have soon a 240 or a 260 to sell.
