Is the epoxy really neccesary? I'm looking at spraying a simple high build primer and laying on the enamel, then some clear a few months later. ~120$ for the whole thing, giving me money left for the equiptment I need to actually shoot it. Maybe I'll change my mind later, it's not moving till the end of the month anyway.

The epoxy is needed if you are going to be taking things down to bare metal. Most primers are water porous (Except epoxy) If you simply put high build on it needs to be dry sanded and painted shortly after or you will begin to develop light rust underneath your primer. (MHO)

If you are simply scuffing original paint then high build is all you need.

Check out this webpage I'm starting which discusses this kind of thing. I'm not a pro but I have done a few cars and trucks over the years.

Geeez guys...ease up a little, I know you're all trying to help him out but remember he said this was his first "whole car paintjob". Unless he's done alot of practice on old fenders and such, he's gonna make mistakes. That's the price you pay for experience.

Why make them with high $$$ paint. Not everyone has a money tree in their backyard or for that matter wants/needs a show quality paintjob. He just needs to go through the process and learn from it. JMO FWIW
