Well some people dreams are coming true with the sd card built in the the cars cd player deck and an ipod usb connection slot. These two features are great just hope some other brands have a system like this. I saw the radio in a target sunday paper ad today resembles an alpine deck but is some other brand...Only thing I question is the systems sound quality.

link-(you can clearly see a sd, memory stick media or XD slot on the left hand side)

I looked at some of those things at a car audio store last week. One had a USB port on the front so you can plug in your IPOD (a 4-letter wordLOL ) or a USB flash drive. The latter one was scary, because the flash drive sticks out , and you could possibly kick it or hit it with something:eek: breaking it and/or the port, rendering the whole unit worthless.:(

Having an IPOD port on the back is better, and the unit I liked best (from JVC) had a built-in CD/MP3 disk player, a mini-jack for your portable CD or MP3 player, satellite radio interface, etc, and an interface on the back for CD mgazine, etc.

In My mind I would never buy a car stereo from target nor walmart but this is the first time Ive seen a deck with a media slot. ( I have plenty of chips from 32mb to 4gb that I have collected :) ) and it looks good just need to find one in an actually audio store. What were the prices you saw Tomohawk so I can get an idea of a "real" brand would cost with said features.

It would also be nice to connect my sony clie NX60 to the car so id have gps and music without spending extra cash.

In reality, the danger of damaging the USB port on the radio or the flash drive would minimal...there isn't enough tension between them unless was was made very poorly to hold them together. In other words, you'd knock the drive out of the port before you'd break it. Besides, USB's flat pins are pretty damage resistant.

iPods are fine, but unless you have a stereo with honest to god iPod control, any MP3 player works just as well. My iPod works wonderfully, even though it's well past its prime...but you never know when you'll need a removable hard disk...and it fits the bill nicely while also playing music I enjoy.

If I was going to buy a new head unit, I'd pick up one of the cheepy models BestBuy has that support MP3 CDs. We just put one in my brother's truck that cost like 70 bucks. It has the USB port and supports MP3 cds and sounds surprisingly good. You just burn the MP3s as files to the cd, fit a few hundred on there and the deck does the decoding. The factory unit in my Focus does the same thing, and I'll tell you, you'll never want to make another audio cd again.

The ones I saw that all the stuff on it were from JVC.

JVC Arsenal CD Receivers

Most decent (less expensive) receivers are now under $200, about $170 on average. I see no reason to sped kilbux on a receiver & speakers. You really should be able to hear what's going on outside the car instead.

What would do with the remote? I just reach over and adjust things- it's only 2 feet...

I dont like my music loud while driving( in case of ambulances and firetrucks plus i just dont like it loud) but im a major audiophile and my music has to sound good..LOL that why I would flesh out more on the speakers than on the actual deck. I still wouldnt get an el-cheapo deck though. I've seen to many go dead, buttons jams or just stop working completly. JVC, Alpine, Panasonic and Kenwood are my favorite deck brands and Infinty or Polk is my choice of speakers. Remotes are not for me either they just get in the way and are to much a hassle, im not that lazy.

Those JVC decks look pretty tempting Tomohawk im going to have to check them out, good price too.

Virto, I know what you mean right now I have two Cd-RWs that have 140 mp3 on them(ea.) and havent skipped a beat yet and all my favorite songs are on those 2 cds. Now thats what I call lightening your load.LOL

I would have never thought it...but JVC decks are great. I got one a few years back, and I've had one ever since. They have all had at least 4v pre-outs and very low distortion. Like everyone, they make an el-cheapo head unit, but their middle of the road unit is usually better than a more expensive Pioneer/Clarion/sony, etc.

Just my 2 cents.

I have the JVC with USB hook-up in my 73Z, I really like it alot. It has a nice little remote that fits nicely in the ashtray. In order to use the USB you need to buy the plug and play kit for an additional $80-100. I put a nice little 100W amp and the rear speaker box and I am "good to go". I recommend the JVC to anyone who wants to use a USB as a method of utilizing the IPOD. I put mine in for my daugther's IPOD, thinking it would make it more fun for her to drive the car...but she still hates it because "It is too hard to steer".
