Posted August 15, 200618 yr comment_178608 Hi; I’m BJ and I live in Lakeland, FL. I had an ‘82z many years ago, and having been bitten, I’d like another one now. I’m seeing things in ads that I don’t understand and hope someone here can fill me in. For one, the term GL. Some of the cars are listed with this, such as: 1983 Nissan 280ZX GL. What’s the GL mean? And then there is the 2+2. Is that the 2 seats they cram in the back, or something else? If the car has the 2 rear seats, can they be folded completely out of the way? Thanks for any help you can provide, and thanks for keeping the car I love alive and well.BJ Nielsen Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21207-newbie-280-question/ Share on other sites
August 15, 200618 yr comment_178618 I'm not sure about the GL, but a 2+2 has rear seats. I'm unsure if they fold or not, but there are two extra seats which also elongates the body. August 15, 200618 yr comment_178633 From what I have seen the GL was a upgrade to the standard car. So it would have electronic dash instead of the standard for example Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21207-newbie-280-question/#findComment-178633 Share on other sites
August 16, 200618 yr comment_178672 The GL was an options package for the standard car...meaning you can have a 280ZX GL or a 280ZX 2+2 GL.I'm not sure that all GLs had the digital dash, but they did sport things like power windows.I wish I had my book with me, I could tell you more. Basically the GL is the "luxury" model of the standard car. The 2+2 is a different body than the standard car, with more length and headspace. It's also more difficult to get body panels for, and personally, the standard car looks better to me. August 16, 200618 yr comment_178688 Gl Grand LuxuryNot all GLs had digital, but they did have power windows and an automatic Hvac system(thoroughly complicated, but worked pretty well until trouble then became something to be hated profusely), leather, lumbar and back support adjustment seats, rack and pinion power steering, and they were denoted by a "J" in the vin. (I have an '82GL)The 2+2 meant there are a second pair of small foldable seats, the quarter windows are able to be opened and closed, and they were available with every option the 2 seater version had. Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21207-newbie-280-question/#findComment-178688 Share on other sites
