Posted August 16, 200618 yr comment_178753 Well I have had the Z for about 8 months now. I enjoy here every single day I drive her. Betty is her name and she has been good to me. She loves it when I rub on her and talk dirty shop talk to her. I love to brag about the upgrades she has and how great the shape of her body is. Keep in mind this is an east coast car and only has surface rust. She has lived in GA all her life and has been sheltered for most of it. Her first was a college professor in 1976, the second was his son, third was going to put a V8 in her but never got around to it (thank goodness). She stayed in the shop then. The forth picked her up in a house deal with the third and his wife said no more cars. Then I got Betty and the rest is history. WoW how do I tell my wife I have been lusting for another? (the car that is) Now I have the chance to get a real nice red 1991 300ZXTT for a real good price, problem is I would have to sell my 280 in trade for the 300. I am going to look at the car today and drive it around and see how I like it. Now for those who may have one or have one or those that just wish for one do you thing its worth it. To sell my 280 and purchace a nice 300ZXTT Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21220-upgrading-my-z-to-a-91tt/ Share on other sites
August 16, 200618 yr comment_178754 That would be entirely up to you. They're different cars. I wouldn't mind having one and I almost bought one in 2001 when my 78 got stolen. But I wouldn't give up my Z to buy one though, in my case the choice was out of my hands. Fortunately, my Z was found, not too badly vandanized, and now it's better than ever. I'd own both if the deal was right but I wouldn't sell one to get the other. August 16, 200618 yr Author comment_178758 Stephen,Well I have owned plenty of S30 models but never owned anything beyond that. I have always been partial to the S30 body style. It just has that great European look to it. Now on the other hand I have always dreamed of a 300XZTT in my drive way just waiting for me to drive it. The bad thing is I always wanted the peral white 300 and this one is red. I am a Z car fan and love all body styles of the Z car. Hell I'm a Nissan fan I own 3 of them now and have bought and sold 5 or 6 in the last couple of years. We will see what happens tonight after I drive it and the wife/boss drives it. Say what you want but yes she is the boss in the long run. August 16, 200618 yr comment_178763 Little different situation here. I'm not knocking your choice I'm just saying what mine would be. The 810 is the 49th car I've owned, not counting the wife's cars. She doesn't even drive my cars. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21220-upgrading-my-z-to-a-91tt/#findComment-178763 Share on other sites
August 16, 200618 yr comment_178776 280~Master or I think that 1 of each is best!! I started with the 300zxtt and then fell for the 73 240Z. I can't imagine not having either one. I drive the 73 almost every day. The 300 is for special events---ANY special event! Don't part with something you love!! Jim D. August 16, 200618 yr comment_178777 If you haven't already go check TT.com or Zdriver mabye which gives you the what to look for with a TT purchase.Once the wife sits in it you own it. I have a 96 NA and it is a great car but is completly different in all aspects. Much more complicated even for changing plugs which is a half hour job.I will probably sell so I can spend more time/money on the S30.Good luck. August 16, 200618 yr comment_178778 John, the only consideration I can add is the cost of ownership. Many of the replacement parts for a 300TT are crazy expensive-finding one at Cash and Cary is a pipe dream-I have NEVER seen one there! I was tempted by the 300TT as well, but NOT for a daily driver, for a fair weather car-meaning the mileage would not change much in several years-keeping potentail repair costs low. Having said that, I am sure the smile you got from driving the car will be harder to ignore than any potential pitfalls. The TT will show you how slow and old Betty really is.Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21220-upgrading-my-z-to-a-91tt/#findComment-178778 Share on other sites
August 16, 200618 yr Author comment_178785 You are right on that they do cost a lot of money to keep up. I have been lloking at 300ZX.com and other sites to get the most comon probls and it seems like the time to repair thses it most of the cause. Now some parts are a bit up there. The cost of up-keep for the car is what would cause me to say no on it. August 17, 200618 yr comment_178828 Replacing the turbos and their electronics will kill you financially.A freind of mine has a NA model and loves it, comfortable highway driver and spirited on the twisties as well. On the twisties, in fact, his NA performs better than the TT version, due to the turbo lag. Ideally, there would be some way to get #2 without selling #1, but if it's impossible, then so be it. Here's another reference for you to check before you take that leap.http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetlinks/links.aspxdavid Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21220-upgrading-my-z-to-a-91tt/#findComment-178828 Share on other sites
August 17, 200618 yr Author comment_178903 Went out last night and drove the car. Looked it over very good. Put it on the lift and walked it with a flashlight. I can see what is wrong with it and the owner has the parts to fix it but just has not got around to it. The wife loved it, she never even knew she was doing 80. So I think I am going to go ahead and pick this car up for the price. It is a good deal only 6500 for the car and in good shape. Going to keep the 280 around for a while until we get used to the new car and then sell it. Who know we may adding somethings to the 300 and end up selling it. August 25, 200618 yr Author comment_179866 I went and bought the 300ZXTT a couple a days ago. WoW is it so much faster than old betty. It is fun to drive but its still not my 280. I will try and post a couple of pics of it for you guys in the near future or as soon as it stops raining here in GA. I will be selling my 76 in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned.
