What is Rice?

I think you forgot to include all the chromed and carbon fibre engine parts that are mostly for looks, and everything under the car has to be painted gloss black.

All for looks or the perception that it would "look fast" which includes the stickers. I know some people can actually afford to add go-fast parts to the engine wthe stickers.

To me, "eye-candy" means a car that is restored or maintained to all the correct (factory or otherwise) colors, parts, and features, albeit that it is sometimes possible to improve on the original design; on a 280Z the fuel injection rail is an example, as well as removing emmisions equipment, which allows one to see a nicely maintained engine.

I admit I have a long magnet thing that I use to cover the paint chips on the hatch pulled off by the Datsun emblem (PO hlued! it on) but until I can get to the bodywork or some paint that really matches, I need to cover the spots.

Do you think a "PininFarina" dash emblem is ricey? It's from the same era, the 280Z emblem crumbled off, and Pininfarina made sport car bodies...

You know...

Usually when some people bash rice stuff, they usually get hammered by those wqho advocate the Freedom of Expression, and adamantly state that any such things are the expression of ones artistic qualities.

Actually, it's just hormones allowing themselves to take over ones good judgement [insert political/morality statements here.] LOL

I don't know that Carbon Fiber can be generalized into the rice category. MSA sells Carbon Fiber hoods and fender flares for our cars that I think look pretty good and don't seem to "rice" out the car.

I would agree on almost all of the rest of the statements though.

The one that kills me is the GTR emblem on everything except an actual GTR.

And the big "R" stickers that I guess make them look cool cause it stands for racing.

you guys better watch out... i got smoked by a riced out low12-high11 GSX. I thought it was a peace POS but damn can that thing take off like a rocket. It was neon green with graphics, a hugh terminator III wing, neon underglow, and a whole bunch of crap. All i saw was the arse of the GSX dragging as that thing take off. When I finally caught up 4 lights after i ask and that what he told me what he was running. I've seen Z06 and this things was faster. Don't judge a book by its cover.

You can now attest that not all rice is cosmetic. Ricers make me as sick as anything but there are some little pricks out there that daddy gives a lot of money to stay out of the house and they put it under the hood of their Honda! My real disgust is ricer street racing and the hazard they pose...all magnified to me now with two kiddie rocket seats in my wife's car. They're harmless but annoying when hanging out in the grocery store parking lot.

Is the Ferrari GTO kit for the S30 just an Italian "rice" kit? I never saw the appeal but hey, that's just me.

I don't think so. Even the "F" lawyers were after the people marketing these for a while, because they were probably afraid people would probably try to sell them off as real Italian jobs.

And it's not just a few pieces of bodywork. You get a whole new body to cover your S30, and you add on lights, trim, etc. It's real nostalgia, a faithful replica of one of the most famous race cars of the 60s. In fact, you can see the lines of the "F" 250 GTO in many contemporary cars- even the Zed.
