My 1978 280Z will start right up, and sounds great for about 2 minutes. The car will then quit, and will not restart for about 20 minutes. It will then restart, and run for about 2 minutes. The plugs seem to be fuel fouled. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and plugs, and the problem is still the same. Not sure where to go from there! I am more a body man than a mechanic, but I am unable to find any mechanics in the SLC, Utah area that know anything about Z cars! Thanks!

Has this come on all of a sudden? Has the car been in storage? If you open the fuel cap how does the gas smell? What color is the exhaust coming out of the tail pipe? What color are the plugs? Picture of the plugs...

With no more info, I will suggest this:

Put a fuel pressure gage in the fuel line on the fuel rail side of the under hood filter under the hood, sounds like your may have a fuel delivery problem, not caused by the pump-most probably junk in the tank/lines.

Will

A bad water temperature sensor or connection could cause this as well as a bad fuel pressure regulator. As well as other issues both mechanical and electrical. I'd be able to get a better direction on this if I knew your fuel pressure a) while the engine is running normally and B) when it dies out.
