Posted August 23, 200618 yr comment_179679 Just about to pick up my engine from being rebuilt and I am in need of the mount from a 280ZX distributor. I put a wanted ad in the classifieds about a week ago (http://www.classiczcars.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=1384&cat=5), but have had no response. Need the mount so I can use this distributor on my 240Z. Anyone have one they're not using laying around? Please give me a shout. From the ad:Hi, finally got a 280ZX distributor, but it didn't have the mount attached that I need to swap to my 240Z for, you got it, mounting. See this picture:http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributor/1.jpgIt would be the mount on the right side of the photo, that's a 77 dizzy mount on the left. Thanks for any help you can be to me. GaryHere's the swap info I'm using:http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributor/index.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21303-280zx-distributor-mount-needed/ Share on other sites
August 23, 200618 yr Author comment_179683 Also, is this mount two pieces, one on the engine and another on the dizzy that it mates to. If so, then I probably need both pieces as the distributor is a bare shaft. See photo of my dizzy as is: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21303-280zx-distributor-mount-needed/#findComment-179683 Share on other sites

Just recopied and pasted from the pages themselves and they seem to work now. Thanks for the heads up, Gary Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21303-280zx-distributor-mount-needed/#findComment-179687 Share on other sites

August 24, 200618 yr Author comment_179718 I've gotten some help, but still looking for the part I posted. I think there has been some confusion in exactly what it looks like so I'm posting a couple more photos with text. The problem may be the block I started with, although an F54 was pretty bare and didn't have the mount. I will try looking through the wreckers, but most of them went on a crushing spree recently and I don't think many Zs or ZXs survived. Here's the photos of the part I need if I'm reading the AtlanticZ tech article correctly: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21303-280zx-distributor-mount-needed/#findComment-179718 Share on other sites
August 24, 200618 yr comment_179738 the part you need looks vary much like the 240 piece that the old dist used. I had one but recently gave it to a friend sorry. The difference between the 240 part and the ZX is the place where the dist bolts to. It is in a different location so the dist is turned and wont allow you to properly set the timing . This is for anyone reading this to know the reason . August 24, 200618 yr comment_179740 You will also need the distributor fixing plate pictured here: I couldn't find one on a 280Zx so I grabbed one from an 83 Maxima engine....at least I think that's what it was. Go to the following URL for more pics. They're at the very bottom. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributorrebuild/index.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21303-280zx-distributor-mount-needed/#findComment-179740 Share on other sites

August 24, 200618 yr comment_179746 I'll be going to the local JY this weekend to look for a 280Z moustache bar and grab a 3:90 diff. There was a couple 280ZX's there last weekend. I grabbed the whole engine and tranny from a 10/80 280ZX 2+2 but I need the dizzy and mount on that one. I think one of the others had the mount on it but no dizzy. PM me on Friday evening if you are still looking an I will check to see if it's still there.
