240z Efi

Anti-Rice

Recommended Posts

Ok heres the Deal. I had a 82' 280ZX until some lady hit me and destroyed my car. Luckily for me the engine remained intact so I looked around and found a rust free 73' 240Z to put that motor in. I have made a few mods to that motor including a turbo head and injectors for better compression. Anyway I get it into the 240 and the injectors don't want to spit. I've tried everything I can think of (including talking to a buddy who is a Z Mechanic, and replacing the computer) but nothing seems to work. I am about to put a set of webers on but i really would like to get this EFI to work because when i had it dialed in right on the 280zx i was makin about 310HP. Any help is appreciated

Sounds like there is a wire not connected somewhere if the injectors are not firing. Perhaps somewhere near the distributor or coil, the injectors get their signal from there so that would be the first place to look.

I don't have any experience with an EFI installation in an early car, so the only thing I can think of would be to thoroughly retrace all the wiring connections between the computer and the fueil injection itself. Also might want to double check your ground connections while you are at it.

BTW, at least the Buick is a classic musclecar. Some of us still have a fondness for old Detroit iron even if we don't like what they put out on the street now!

When I took the engine out of my zx i made a drawing (unofficial wiring schematic if you will) about the way it was wired. Even though I might have missed something when I wired it, I followed that diagram real carefully double checking everything. Is there some place that sells wiring schematics for Z cars or someplace that you can download them off the internet from?

Some ideas that might help:

An easy mistake to make in an efi conversion is to connect the ignition feed to the computer to acessories wire of the ignition switch. This will cut the power to the computer while the engine is cranking and give you no squirt from the injectors at all.

How long was the motor sitting for? More than a year or so can clog up injectors. Maybe get the serviced.

Got the fuel lines on the right way round? If you put the feed line into the pressure regulator instead of the injector rail then you will have bugger all fuel pressure at the injectors.

A silly one - you are using the efi fuel pump right?

Does the fuel pump run for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on? If it doesn't then check pump connections and power to the ecu.

Hope something in this drivel helps. Good luck.
