Posted August 28, 200618 yr comment_180193 My early series 1 Z has the clear hatch glass (no heater lines) which I would just as soon keep. However, it has grind marks in the glass that cannot be removed and it doesn't look very good upon close inspection:disappoin . I can get later model glass without too much problem but not the early glass. I was thinking of keeping the glass and maybe covering it up with louvres, or I can replace with the later model glass with the heater lines.Any general thoughts? Thanks,Stephen Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21354-original-series-1-hatch-glass-keep-or-replace/ Share on other sites
August 28, 200618 yr comment_180194 How deep are the grind marks? It's possible to polish some things out. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21354-original-series-1-hatch-glass-keep-or-replace/#findComment-180194 Share on other sites
August 28, 200618 yr Author comment_180195 It is as if someone took a grinder and touched it on the glass, leaving gouge marks that are pretty deep. I had a glass "professional" look at it and he said there was not anything they could do. It is noticeable upon close inspection and looking through my rear view mirror. August 28, 200618 yr comment_180221 duffman, IIRC there are people who can repair scratches in wind shields! I don't know any specific name but remember seeing adds to that nature. They generally come to your car and do it on site. So, save that early rear window!Tom Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21354-original-series-1-hatch-glass-keep-or-replace/#findComment-180221 Share on other sites
August 28, 200618 yr Author comment_180224 Tom, there is no doubt my first desire is to save the window. I will research further and see if I can find someone who can at least improve it so it is less noticeable. Thanks,Stephen Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21354-original-series-1-hatch-glass-keep-or-replace/#findComment-180224 Share on other sites
August 28, 200618 yr comment_180226 I've successfully used this kit from Eastwood to remove fairly deep scratches from my windshield caused by the PO running the wipers without blades. I bought a cheap variable speed angle grinder at a local home improvement store and it worked well.
