plug gap

ok, the auto store i got my spark plugs from says the gap is supposed to be like .30-.34, however, the book says it needs to be at .39-.44 (or somewhere round there). seems like thats a pretty wide gap in numbers to me...and i thought the first set of numbers was for the l24 and l26. i have a 76 280 with the fi l28. now if they go up a year to the 77, it specifies the second gap numbers, but i thought the 76 and 77 had the same engine? so whats the deal? and how am i supposed to gap these dang plugs??

thanks,

jacqui

A 76 should be .0039-.0043 according to my book. I have a 78 but I also have the FSM for a 76. The gap on cars with electronic ignition is always a little wider than that of point type ignition. Sound like they were giving you the specs for a 240Z.
