Posted September 6, 200618 yr comment_181278 I took the seats out of my 38,000 mile 1972 240Z and decided to check out the floors a little more closely. On the surface they looked rust free due to the tars mats covering them. I carefully peeled up the mats and found some pretty heavy "surface rust", but no holes....yet. So I decided to treat them with the clear POR-15 instead of the black so that it wouldn't obsecure their actual condition. After two solid days of treating the floors with Metal Ready and scraping off as much rust as possible I put two coats of clear POR-15 on yesterday. I was amazed by the results.I was able to carefully remove the tar mats without ripping them up and I may tack them back on the treated floors to preserve the original look and help keep the road noise down. Let me know what you think. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21457-rust-free-floors-in-a-z/ Share on other sites

September 6, 200618 yr comment_181281 are those spot welds next to the seat brackets on the floor? It almost appears as if the floors have been replaced. September 6, 200618 yr comment_181282 The final result looks good. But what about the underside of the floorpan. Are they treated with undercoating?. The two brighter silver spots on the back side of the front seat mount in the 2nd driver's side pic are due to the glare of the POR-14 around the channels that go under the brackets. September 6, 200618 yr Author comment_181284 The final result looks good, but what about the underside of the floors. Are they treated with undercoating?.They underside of the floors are treated with factory undercoating, so I am less worried about them at the moment. I will have to check them out further when I have the time, but from what I have seen the undercoating looks to be intact. September 6, 200618 yr comment_181291 Mike B , looks like you dodged the bullet big time. It's amazing how well the metal ready and some scraping returns the metal rust free and ready for treatment. Good job! :rambo: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21457-rust-free-floors-in-a-z/#findComment-181291 Share on other sites
September 6, 200618 yr comment_181299 Yea...same here, Beandip. Caught that one just in time. Looks real good! Have a good look at the frame rail as it extends back below the seat mounts. September 6, 200618 yr comment_181311 Chris, my thought exactly. I am envious of Mikes floor pans. Saved a bunch of time(and money) on that one. Looks like his car is in great shape period. The white vinyl looks brand new. I would suspect that there is "surface rust" all inside the frame rails under the pans and that will eventually come throught the pans. I guess all you can do is inject some metal ready and then try your best to inject some por Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21457-rust-free-floors-in-a-z/#findComment-181311 Share on other sites
September 6, 200618 yr comment_181318 The before and after pics are night and day. Good results. I used the regular POR-15 so far on the bottom of my floors, does the clear stuff leave that high gloss after its done? or is that the camera flash?Zak Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21457-rust-free-floors-in-a-z/#findComment-181318 Share on other sites
