Diff. oil cooler for EP 240Z ?

I am posting this for Greg.

"We are having problems keeping our R180 differentials cool during races.

Has anyone used a pump system with a cooler before? If so, let me know what type of pump to use and an approximate cooler size.

FWIW, Greg ran the national at Heartland Park Topeka as a tuneup for the Runoffs to be held there Oct. 9-15. First time he has seen the track. He set a new E Production track record in the race but pulled in not to overheat the diff.

I've run the following pump and a small Mocal cooler.

I plumbed the -6 return line into the top of the diff so it dumped right where the R&P meet. The scavange line was plumbed into a male -6 AN fitting welded to the drain opening on the rear diff cover.

BTW... these pumps last about a season and need a 30 amp fuse.

My location for the return was based on my own "monkey-see-monkey-do" engineering from a picture of an old BRE car. Maybe it wasn't the best spot but seemed to worked fine. Also, use the R180 diff cover gasket from the front diff off a 720 4x4 pickup. It has an extra tab that shields the vent from fluid splash.

The Factory race prep manual for the S30-series Z carried information on their recommended diff cooler setup. See scan below.

Parts were sold to the general public through the Nissan Sports Option catalogues. See scan below.

In Works rally cars, the pumps were most often mounted inside one of the 'tool bins' behind the seats.

The diff coolers sold in the Sports Option catalogues measured 70mm x 200mm x 40mm, and the pumps were rated at 5 litres per minute.
