September 7, 200618 yr comment_181433 No-it is a non running parts car in need of paint!-if it was running, it would be worth what he paid for it-maybe more. The car is not rare, some of the parts are. If the car was all that wonderful he would be asking more for it, or would have taken the time to get it running. The pictures do not include the rust he talked about(couldn't get Photobucket to cooperate); they are also not good enough to evaluate the fender blending-though I question it based on reflection and the overspray under the hood-not professional. After sitting for a year and a half, it is going to need tires, a fuel system cleaning, a battery in addition to what ever it takes to get it running. The carbs and wheels might be marketable(if we knew their actual condition), but the bonded on pieces are not(except as a whole), A rough running 250GTO replica in similar shape and outfitting went for $2900 a couple of months ago. If he wants what he has in it, he needs to get it running.but if somone wants to take a gamble...Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21468-anyone-think-this-car-is-worth-the-asking-price/#findComment-181433 Share on other sites
September 7, 200618 yr comment_181438 I'd buy it if I had the money. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21468-anyone-think-this-car-is-worth-the-asking-price/#findComment-181438 Share on other sites
September 7, 200618 yr comment_181450 That's a wild-looking Z, and if you like that look, it might be worth it. For me, though, I'd rather find an excellent stocker.-Mikey Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21468-anyone-think-this-car-is-worth-the-asking-price/#findComment-181450 Share on other sites
September 7, 200618 yr comment_181459 First lesson of spending money on cars: A car is rarely worth the price of parts it is composed of. September 7, 200618 yr comment_181487 Not running, needs paint, Rust in all the usual places - that's pretty broad strokes. Hope you got lots of cash - you'll need it. Looks hot though. September 7, 200618 yr comment_181527 Some more things to think about.1) if you bought it, do you have a place to store it and work on it-few people like having a dassassemblend car in plain site in their neighborhood, and even fewer will not get bent out of shape when work is done on the car that allows the wonderfull smell of old gas to waft through the same space their nose occupies, or sanding/grinding noises to fall upon their ears. If it would be stored at your house, covennants, and ordinances may have some interest is the situation.2) Do you have the time to devote to a project of this size. It sat a year and a half with him, thoroughy evaluate it before you end up with someone elses yard art.3) Do you have the avaiable money to take care of this. By the time you finish, you probably could have bought a good running z and installed a similar body kit for about the same money-the difference would be in the wheels, and in the ability to drive the car as you work on it(excitement/motivation is much stronger when you can drive a car around).4) Anybody who has to tell you to trust him twice in an ad must have something that makes him feel people don't trust him. Hmmmm.5) Tire supply/costs at the Tire Rack.com I found only one tire 345 size tire to fit the rear at $477 each and no 285 series tires for the front. The seller says that that size wheel is not made anymore, that will limit you to racing tires. This means you may have to replace the wheels anyway! Will Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21468-anyone-think-this-car-is-worth-the-asking-price/#findComment-181527 Share on other sites
September 7, 200618 yr comment_181529 Formula/Toyota Atlantic 15" slicks would fit perfectly with 350 rears, 250 fronts. Run a 14" wheel in back and a 10" in front. Just needs a new air dam and someone who understands the carbs to get it running. Will is right though, it would be really hard to find a streetable set of tires for it, unless you put some Viper sized 18" wheels on it, and that would bring about it's own set of problems. If someone really wanted, the flares could be narrowed too. Those IMSA flares are pretty ridiculously huge for a street car. I bet it'd be a real head turner with a halfway decent paint job. September 7, 200618 yr Author comment_181540 Thanks for all the replies. Personally, I think it's rediculous for a street car, and the seller is a bit suspect. I agree with Will: the seller thinks he's got something that's more than it is, and isn't telling the straight story.I am not thinking of buying this car, I just thought a heady discussion of another "rare" vehicle would be good to have. September 7, 200618 yr comment_181549 I am not thinking of buying this car, I just thought a heady discussion of another "rare" vehicle would be good to have. Damn. Too bad. Are you SURE? You could put that red Z together and sell it to finance this one. As a side benefit those rear flares are so big they would probably make a convenient outdoor changing table for Amelie... September 7, 200618 yr comment_181550 I couldn't get the photobucket to work either. I'd like to see or hear about the suspension upgrades. With big wheels like that I would hope they did some brake or suspension upgrades. Sure would be a nice project if you wanted a race car. $4500 might be a little on the high side, I'd have to see more.
