i just inherited the family zcar. its a seventy seven 2+2. I learned to drive in this car and want to restore it. I'm looking for info on cost and availability of parts. Are there places to purchase remanufactured parts such as interior (seat covers, door panels, carpets, etc) Are zcar's worth the time and money to restore? Does anyone have a name of a good motor man in the sacramento area? I'd apreciate any info i can get. thanks!

A Z car is worth the time and effort to restore as long as there is not too much chassis rust. If it has a sentimental value such as yours it makes it even more worthy of a little TLC.

One of the best sources of restoration parts is Motorsport Auto in Orange, CA. You can request their catalog at www.zcarparts.com. It is full of restoration and performance parts for all year Z cars. Their prices are fair, some may sell for less, but a lot of their competitiors don't offer the large selection they do. You can find many other suppliers in the web links section here also for comparison shopping.

One of the other members will have to help you on the mechanic in your area.

In my opinion unless you do the work yourself Z cars are not worth restoring if you are looking at selling for a profit. If you doing it for you own enjoyment then, how deep is your wallet? I am in the Sacramento area (Granite Bay) and new to the restore seen but I suggest going to one of the ZONC meetings at Peoples Nissan in Folsom. I have not been so I will be checking them out also. Check out the links from this site to others, read the tech info. ask questions and after as short while you will find out who knows what they are talking about and who is full of it! In general I have found this site to have a good group of knowledgeable folks that respond. <p>

Just remember why you are doing what you are doing and do not get distracted by flash.

I can't help with a mechanic in the Sacramento area, but I can offer a list of parts sources for you. In addition to the "classic" MSA in Orange, CA, you may want to check these out:

Victoria British - www.vistoriabritish.com - midwest, lots of new parts

Z Barn - www.zbarn.com - Tennessee, some new, lots of used parts

Courtesy Nissan - www.courtesypart.com - Texas, new parts

Z Parts - www.zparts.com - CA Bay Area, mostly used parts

Strictly Z Parts - www.strictlyz.com - Southern CA? new parts

There are other sources, such as Z Therapy for SU carbs, which will surface as you dig into the fun of owning a Z car. Since you are in CA, you shouldn't have much problem gettin help - lots of Z owners out there. Good luck.
