ClassicDatsun.com Speaker Brackets?

Does anyone out there have - or has anyone seen the rear speaker brackets from Classic Datsun?

http://www.classicdatsun.com/ (Click on 240Z Parts on left then scroll to bottom of page)

I got a price of $29.99 from Mark. I've just purchased a Clarion CD/MP3 player with built in flash memory from Ebay and Clarion 5 1/4" for the doors which have already been butchered by the PO. If these brackets are worth a darn then I will match a set of Clarion 6 1/2" in the rear panels and call it a day... other wise I'm looking into building a MSA-like 6x9 box. Quite frankly I'd rather not have the box, but if it's the best route to go...

I've done some searching and found the brackets only referenced, but haven't found anyone whose actually used or seen them. Any thoughts or experiences?

FWIW, I installed these brackets and some cheap Pyramid 6 3/4 three way speakers. I did this to avoid changing the appearance of the (mostly) stock car. Be aware that many speakers won't fit the already mounted bolts and you will have to fab some mounting bolts for the right side. If you get speakers with tweeters built in they will be in contact with the plastic panels and will buzz and rattle. I actually cut openings in them around the outline of the little holes as the panels were covered with a velour material(installed by the PO). The sound is ok, certainly better than the stock speaker in the car. I agree that they are not placed for the best sound(facing each other). If I had to do it over(and I just might), I would get or fabricate the speaker box for 6X9s that replaces the rear taillight panel (avaiiable from MSA and some other sources). The $145 price tag is a bit steep and you could fab one up yourself for a lot less. Several people on the site have done so. In short these brackets were a great idea, but one that doesn't work as well as I would have liked....just my opinion.

i fashioned a bracket for the passenger side speaker and mounted one in that location. sounds better, but Ron's right, not great.

also, if you're gonna put one in there, make sure it's a very shallow speaker. i ran into some interference since it backs right up to the fuel filler neck and the accompanying hoses.

Hi guys, The brackets are very close to the original size. The O.D. is close to the same, however the I.D. is "cut out" to accommodate a larger speaker. To use a 5 1/4 speaker the bracket would have to be modified in some way. I agree on the shallow speaker comment. Mine are right up against the hoses for the vapor recovery tank and there is not much room in there. I wire tied the hoses as far to the outside(away from the speaker) as I could, but it is a tight fit. Mike

Thanks for all the input fellas. I am aware of the less than ideal location of the rear speakers and I was hoping that the 3 way 5 1/4" speakers in the doors (another not so great location) would deliver enough highs and then mount some quality 6 1/2" woofers (no tweeters) in the rear locations to round out the sound. I would like to keep as much space in the hatch as possible for chairs, a cooler, a couple of overnight bags and the like.

Do ya'll think my idea will work or do you think I would end up doing the box anyway? The depths of the speakers I'm looking at are 2" to 2.4". Are these too deep?

Thanks again-

Nate
