I have a guy (local to me) who is interested in purchasing my complete dash and console out of my '78 280z parts car to put into his '73 240z. Steering column, all brackets, harnesses, everthing! He says he knows the wiring is 100x more complicated, but he wants to do it anyway. What issues are there for doing this swap? I don't want the guy coming back to me and complaining that the dash won't fit!

I don't think it would be fair for him to expect that you'll know what problems he'll run into. It seems to me that you should happily sell it to him with the stipulation that you don't know whether or not it will work and that he's on his own.

A good way to discourage a person is put the price a little higher than you think it should be.

Unless Alissa has another buyer lined up or has a use for the dash herself why discourage him? I say sell it ...

I should qualify my statement with the words: "If you are not sure that it will work and are uncomfortable selling it" or maybe....screw it "nevermind!". As we used to say in the Navy "Belay my past"

I am ready to say screw it. He's some yuppy corvette guy who is paying for his college son's project!! But he did make me a great offer for all those parts. I just want them out of my already cluttered basement.

Sell it and be done with it! He should know what he's buying and if it should fit or not. We've all bought parts that we were "certain" would fit, only to find out that we were wrong. I doubt any of us went crying back to the seller saying I screwed up, please buy all this stuff back. 0.02

The main issue with a 73 240z dash is the wiring harness. If you replace the dash and the harness for any other year the plugs that connect to the rest of the car ie. the engine bay harness and the body harness will not fit. I have a 1973 and harnesses are difficult at best to find. They do not exchange with any other year model. The 70 to 72 dashes do not have the cigarette lighter in the dash, it is in the console. I replaced my dash w/ a 71 dash and had to make a new hole for the cig lighter in the dash.
