September 14, 200618 yr comment_182386 My vote would be for "Prince / Datsun Skylines" don't mention 240 anything i would love for more prince owners to get on here Don't forget Nissan.......... My KPGC10 is not a Prince or a Datsun - despite the combined DNA. Come to that, my Fairlady 240ZG and Fairlady Z-L ( 432R replica project ) are both proudly 'Nissan' products too.......... Alan T. September 15, 200618 yr comment_182510 sure, but this is a usa based site and nissan equates to post '82? models, often with a bit of disdain Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21545-new-name/?&page=2#findComment-182510 Share on other sites
September 15, 200618 yr comment_182532 All Datsun 240Ks/Skylines are Nissans, but the opposite is not always true! Miles, please don't think I directed my reply to you. I was just saying in general to bring it back on-topic. September 15, 200618 yr comment_182534 sure, but this is a usa based site.....Personally, I like to think of it as an internet based site. It helps to remind me that we have people from all over the world posting here, and that the cars we share an interest in, and which form the basis of the site, are Japanese. ......and nissan equates to post '82? models, often with a bit of disdainI don't agree. 99.9999% of the cars we talk about on here are Nissan designed and Nissan manufactured. Nissan stuck 'Datsun' emblems on them for export markets, but they were Nissan products nevertheless. The disdain I can't quite get my head around. Essentially it seems to be based on the regret of losing a name that shouldn't really have been used in the first place. Seems like people didn't actually know who was making these cars with 'Datsun' written on them.........Alan T. Essentially it seems to be based on the regret of losing a name that shouldn't really have been used in the first place. Seems like people didn't actually know who was making these cars with 'Datsun' written on them.........Alan T.Alan, funny you should mention that. When I was young, we had a couple of 510s and it confused me as to why the car was called a Datsun, but almost everything printed referred to Nissan Motor Corporation. The glass was marked Nissan, the owner's manual said Datsun on the cover, but in the back, was printed Nissan Motor Corporation, etc, etc, etc . . . . . The "disdain" (at least in Hawaii) was that when they changed the name from Datsun to Nissan, they had a few products that were not up to par. This had nothing to do with the name change, but people automatically assumed that it had some connection.Case in point: my friend had an 83 Nissan pick-up. Because it was a model change, some parts were '82 Datsun, and some parts were '83 Nissan. He always told me that he had to be careful about buying parts because some were Nissan and some were Datsun and it was because of the name change.True story. But I agree, Nissan should have never sold their cars under the Datsun name. September 15, 200618 yr comment_182563 So currently the forums reads:Sub-Forums: S30 Z Series - 240z, 260z, 280z, Zcar Conversions & Aftermarket, Datsun 240KHow about :Sub-Forums: S30 Z Series - 240z, 260z, 280z, Zcar Conversions & Aftermarket, C Series Skyline (or Skyline C series). That covers all the current Skyline/240K people that post here I think (maybe with the exception of the Pre-C10 Skyline (cant recalll the exact chassis code), but I cant remember any owners actually posting here). Also it wont encourage newer skylines (R sereies - theres plenty of forums for them, www.r31skylineclub.com and www.skylinesdownunder.com etc ) and could not be confused with the S series Z.The distain Alan speaks of seems to be the reverse down under. Nissans are regarded fairly well, but Datsuns are regarded poorly, though of as rusted out thrashers and grandpa cars, except by people that own them, or know anything about cars. September 15, 200618 yr comment_182574 yes this subforum has an international feeling about it, but the owner of this site is still an american z enthusiast and the majority of members seem to be as welli've spent quite a few years on datsun1200.com, which although based in portugal (the owner at least) has an overwhelming aussie atmosphere, aussies members being in the majorityi think the datsun 240k label works very well here (despite the fact that it fails to mention other skylines), but if early z owners are more willing to acknowledge and accept the the term as akin to their own cars, perhaps that's not such a terrible sacrificebtw, remember that the the datsun vs. nissan debate is emotional, not logical Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21545-new-name/?&page=2#findComment-182574 Share on other sites
