Posted September 14, 200618 yr comment_182434 Well, I finally purchased my 1971 240z if any of you remember the pics that I showed. Got it for $625!I am going to flush all the fluids in the car and do normal tune up plus a little extra. The engine/tranny has been rebuilt, so all of what I am going to do is replace some of the hoses. What are the best products/options to shoot for?Oil Oil Filter (K&N?)Air Filter (K&N?)Radiator Coolant Water/Coolant mixSpark PlugsSpark Plug wiresBatteryI might end up flushing these out, just to be safe so what would be some good fluids here if I do flush these?Brake fluidTranny Fluid (4-Speed manual)Plus what are some good tires. It has the stock 14" rims with 195/(?)65. Stock it was running 175's. I like the rims, so I am going to clean them up and use them instead of getting something new. Should I go back to 175's, get 185's, 195's? or can these rims fit something bigger like 205's or 215's?Should I get wider and bigger tires in the rear then compared to the front? For example, 175/60 front and 195/65 rear.Need to start getting my list made and the prices so that I can send the list and $$ out to my brother so the can start working on it for me :-) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21570-first-tune-up/ Share on other sites
September 16, 200618 yr Author comment_182629 No suggestions? I already know companies that I would use for these products, but I am just looking for suggestions on what companies are the bomb for z's and which companies to stay away from. Like there might be a good overall company, but for stock zcars, they are a no no. So this type info would be good to know. Plus the tire thing I would really love to know, though I know that it can be sorta hard without actaully looking at the tires/rims. These might help for some old school/diehard owners/knowers. September 16, 200618 yr comment_182635 I would use NGK plugs ( thats what I have) and I also heard that BFGs are prettty good (tires). Hope this helps a little as I am an utter noob, newb, nub, nooblet, newbie, noobinator. There are also several threads on what to buy for a good tune up one with a list for $500 which I found very detailed. Make sure you got tools to and the proper ones at that. If the car has been setting long , drain the oil before starting the engine , remove the spark plugs and put about a tablespoon full of oil in the plug hole and turn the engine over with a socket wrench on the crank dampener pulley nut. DONT USE THE STARTER . if you have a stuck valve you will bend it if the piston hits it . The oil will help if there is rust in the cylinder or cylinders. Every time the engine is stopped there is always two valves open to outside air. The valve stem can rust the valve in place. Remove the valve cover and coat the valve train with oil and watch the valves to see that they are all opening and closing properly. While you are doing this engine turning you will be pumping fresh clean oil through the engine . If all is well , install some new NGK bpr6es plugs. I use Purolator 1 oil filters exclusively and Quaker State oil 10w30 , I also have the stock air cleaner and use a K & N element. Coolant , I wouldn't use anything but water until you are done checking on leaks and so on. When after a couple hundred miles then mix 50/50 water and I use Prestone. Plug wires I recommend 8mm silicone set. Battery just the proper size . Tires , 205/60-14 will work great on those wheels. I recommend a performance tire . You will find the 14'' wheels limit your selection . EScanlon has the same wheels . They will clean up and look great. This is my 2cs Gary:rambo: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21570-first-tune-up/#findComment-182667 Share on other sites
