Posted September 14, 200618 yr comment_182436 I think that you guys in this section will know best. My and my brother dont exactly know what it is. We sorta have an idea though. We arnt sure if it just needs a new cover, or needs to be replaced. If I do replace it, would it be a good idea to replace the one on the other side with it? This picture helps show roughly were it is at. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21571-what-is-this/ Share on other sites
September 14, 200618 yr comment_182437 it's a steering rack boot. Check Victoria British or Motorsport Auto, they sell them. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21571-what-is-this/#findComment-182437 Share on other sites
September 14, 200618 yr Author comment_182457 Should I buy two and replace both of them while I am at it? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21571-what-is-this/#findComment-182457 Share on other sites
September 14, 200618 yr comment_182463 might as well, if the other one is in poor shape as well. Black Dragon Auto (Victoria British) sells the boots as a kit for $24.95 + s&h. It looks like you're going to have to dismantle your steering rack to get them on. If you replace them, let me know how it goes, I have to replace mine since it's almost gone altogether. September 14, 200618 yr comment_182471 i replaced mine with a universal kit from the local car place, repco. you just undo the end that connects to the wheel and you can slide the old one off (although i found it easier just to cut it as its slippery) and slide the new one on, after undoing all the bits holding it on ofcourse Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21571-what-is-this/#findComment-182471 Share on other sites
September 14, 200618 yr comment_182484 Note the when ordering this item from VicBrit, otherwise known now as Black Dragon, that you talk to someone and emphasize that is for a 240Z if that is what you have. They screwed up and sent me the 280ZX? version or something else. I didn't notice untli I started installing them and they did not fit. September 16, 200618 yr Author comment_182628 Cool. I will throw two of these onto my list.I looked over and email the Zman over at www.zspecialties.com to see what he has and the prices. As of now it looks like I am going to be getting my interior (carpet, padding, seat covers) from this guy. I asked him how much the steering rack boot costs and he said that they are $55. Why would he charge $30 more then Dragon Auto? Zman claims that some parts are replicas, speacail made and high quality which include these boots. Is this the same for Dragon Auto?
