Hi everyone. I have been a long time lurker on this board and recently bought another 240Z to play with. I had a '71 back in 1973 and kept it until 1981 or so. While I feel I am somewhat knowledgeable on Z's I certainly have enjoyed the wealth of knowledge on this board.

On another auto forum I frequent we started a thread called "Did you know....?"

The thread has grown to 28 pages and takes more than 2 hours to read from start to finish and has an enormous amount of facts about the car.

I thought I would start one on this board so that the wise sage's of this forum could show off a little of their knowledge and it might help to educate newbie's about Z cars. (me included:cheeky: )

If you guys will join me, and limit each post to a single "Did you know...?" I wonder how many pages of info we could compile.

Ok, I guess I should start this out.

Did you know....that the l-24 engine OEM connecting rods are made of forged steel?

did you know you can tighten your timeing chain without removing the front engine cover?

the driveshafts for the 4 speed and 5 speed are not the same length.

you can start, run and stop you early car with 6 or less wires.

zcars are the most popular, buy volume sports car in the world.

you can drive your car without a brake boost.

your l28 with su's will hold 7 gallons of fluid from oil pan to top of valve cover.

an after market 240 z airconditioner has been tooled to blow 39 degrees against a 95 degree climate.

did you know blowing 39 degrees from an aftermarket a/c is still not enough?

Ok Will, I'll bite, I am assuming a restoration does not meet emissions but modification program? Tell us more.

Not quite Paul, it is easier than that! No Z (or any other car for that matter) came from Nissan with a proper state automobile tag, A proper restoration, even if you consider it to be as delivered from a dealer, would not include having a tag on the car. You will not find a part number for any state tag in any parts manual ever made for any S30, and it is illegal to operate an automobile on a public road with out one(though most states do grant a grace period to allow an owner to get one)!

The tag is normally the first (and sometimes the only) bolt on modification added by the first owner.

Thanks Stephen was about to ask that myself. He's talking about plates. We change them up here all the time. You send the state a check for the tag and sometimes you get the tag, sometimes you get the tag and plate both. Have yet to figure out when they deem it time to change the plate.

We get a plate every so often, but a tag every year, but you can't get a tag without a plate. Even the state of Georgia calls it the tag office...

Do you know that to put the competition parts quick steering knuckles on an early car, you have to swap to the larger ball joints?
