Playlists are a defined sequence of songs. Usually, you pick a playlist, ad only those songs will play. Unless you go to random mode.

My Clarion says to do this. Now I know that every stereo is different but this should help guide people in the right direction.

Play list mode

This function allows you to play tracks, up to latest

5 time stamps, by reading the play list information

written on the disc.

1. Press and hold the [PLAY LIST] button for 1

second or longer to turn on or off the play list

mode.

∗Play list play is possible only when there is a

file whose extension is “.M3U” or “.ASX” on

the CDR-RW.

∗Up to 5 play lists can be recognized, and up to

255 files can be recognized per play list.

Making a play list

1. Write desired tracks to a CD-R/RW, etc. Be

sure to use alphanumeric/ASCII characters

for all file names.

2. Make a play list by using a multimedia player,

Windows Media, Winamp, etc. and save the data. The file format must

be M3U or ASX.

3. Again, write this play list to the CD-R/RW,

etc.

Notes:

• When writing to a CD-R/RW, etc., be sure to use

alphanumeric/ASCII characters.

• Up to 5 layers can be recognized as a list. For

written play lists, latest 5 lists are recognized in

the order in which they are written.

• When writing to a CD-R/RW, etc., turn off the Disc

At Once function.• When adding a play list, it is recommended to

write it in the “Root” folder.

I don't know what you mean by "playlists". I burned it with Nero 6 as an MP3 cd and that's how it came out. It shows the name of the song and the artist for each of the 150 or so tracks as they are playing.

You have got to forgive him he has been smelling exhaust fumes from a Datsun for over 30 years. I don't think he knows you can put a list together so the songs play as you want them to play and not alphabetical or numerical order.

Actually, I do origanize the files in the order I want them to be in before I burn the cd. I didn't realize that it was rocket science.

It's probably not rocket science, but usually the ownwers manual doesn't tell you everything you need to know- especially the ones written in multiple languages (pictures).

I'll bet that the solution is so simple, when you discover it, that you'll do this when you get it :stupid:

Me? I'm not looking for a solution. I can do, and have done, what you guys are talking about in the program I use.

All you have done so far was to make a CD ith MP3 files on it, but did you get the playlists on it too?

Well then, I guess I don't understand what you're asking. I thought the question was whether or whether not the files could be put on the cd in the order you want them to be in. As far as a 'playlist' goes, I guess I'm really not concerned about it. Some one stated earlier in the thread that this is something I don't know about. Okay, that's fine but it's also something I really don't care about so when it comes to questions about 'playlists' I have nothing further to share here.

So what I was getting at was that in mediaplayer 11 (beta), it creates the playlist file for you. Now the way that I made the playlist in m.p.11 was that all the songs were arranged by artist and it created the appropriate folders on the disc along with a playlist file. Now, it is my assumption that if you made multiple (drag and drop) playlists in m.p.11, and then droped those multiple playlists in the burn category then it would create multiple playlists on the disc too... perhaps I will try this in a little while.

I can't find myself wanting a playlist of songs in a particular order since that wouldn't last but maybe 30 seconds before I decided to change to a specific song as my mood changes often and I require a bit variation in my song choices.

I am also aware of the other options to the iPod, I happen to have an HP ipaq 4705 PDA. A perk of the job I guess. It too small, is capable of mp3/wma play back and better yet can do more than an iPod could ever hope to do. On the other hand while running or road/mountain biking I've yet to find myself in need of music, I guess the soundtrack to my life is missing a few tracks...

I made 3 test playlists and it combined them during the making of the burn list. The end result was one playlist of the disc, all songs were arranged by artist, one wasted CD-R and 3 minutes of my life I can never get back. I was thinking about a multisession CD, something I use to do with an old program about 6 years ago but mediaplayer didn't seem to have that as an option so I did a search in the help menu and noticed this in the FAQs...

Why do the songs on the CD I burned play in a different order than the list I created?

If you burn a data CD and play it on another computer or play it in a portable, home, or car CD player, the songs might not play in the order in which they appeared in your burn list. The playback order of data CDs is determined by the device or other program that you are using to play the CD. In most cases, the songs will play back in alphanumeric order by file name.

... this could be another hurdle to scale... but whatever... best of luck in accomplishing what ever it is that you are hoping to do... sounds like nero might be a good option and a fella I work with uses and prefers winamp...

When you put a playlist in the Burn list, Mediaplayer will just treat it as if you put each songfile on there individually. It's just a shortcut to adding many files. You could just put a whole folder on the list. Mediaplayer may rearrange the songs to it's own order (or whatever the settings are) while burning. Check settings or options to see if you can change the order or turn it off sorting.

I'm going to make a disk in the format of a Data disk, with a folders containing a single playlist and the associated MP3 songfiles.

A playlist is usually a separate file that can be put on the CD along with the other music files. Depending on the player, it will find the playlist and start to play the music as it's listed in the playlist.

That's a totally different question then- how do you select the songs you put on your Ipod? Personally, I have an idea for a playlist (rock music, mood, wakeUP!, sleep, Polkas, etc.,) and I assemble about 20 songs to go with that idea. It sounds like some people will just rip every CD they own to put it on the Ipod.

I do have my entire music collection ripped to MP3. This does make the decision as to what to put on the iPod a bit more difficult, I just chose my favorites and put them in my playlist, my wife chose her's and put them in her play list, we put all the kid's music in their playlist, I have an audio book playlist where I rotate audio books, and a couple other playlists for specific items such as motivational that stay on there all the time. Any of these playlists may be changed on a whim or as our tastes change or we get tired of the songs on the iPod (hard to get tired of this many songs though since this is a far greater variety than the radio plays) etc.

I can understand the variety/capacity issue, but I can hear the difference in the equipment I have listened to-granted, even the headphones were reasonably good(no earbuds). I usually watch a movie/listen to a cd when I am in or through an airport-my laptop dosen't skip easily.

Elsewhere, for the quality, I would just find an FM station that plays "my kind" of music and listen to that, instead of having the investment in time(and money?) to search out, audtion, and download 1000 songs that would (at least in my case) play on the radio anyway. I would rather have control over what plays when I have more enjoyment from how it sounds. Not that an Ipod isn't a valuable addition to the lifestyles of a great many people, but that technology is just not up to my audio standard yet-call me spoiled....

WOW! I must say that I'm impressed you can hear the difference through such low fidelity 'speakers' most can not...including me. You probably were in band or otherwise tied very tightly to music at some point to have developed that level of listening skill (just based upon past person's I have known who have also had a really good ear for sound quality).

My songs where not downloaded, they are all from my music collection which I ripped to MP3 though that was a time consuming process when I did it a few years back. Why did I do this? 1) backup! I have lost a few irreplacealbe CDs due to a car theft and do not wish to repeat this so my originals stay safe and sound at home these days (also just in case a CD gets scratched I now have a backup). 2) I have a webserver hosting all these songs so I can listen to them anywhere I have an internet connection (used before the iPod was introduced). 3) I have them all on my fileserver at home and from there they are served up to my arcade in the game room which has an ejukebox software program on it (VERY cool system!!).

Listening to the radio is fine and I do still do so often. Though the one down fall to that is on a long trip you have to constantly search for new stations and in the back roads there are not always good stations that come in. Furthermore, I have a VERY broad taste in music (rap, rock, alternative, hip-hop, dance, top 40, classical, electronica, big band, etc) and there is no station I have ever heard of that covers all of this...my iPod does.

The original question was in relationship to DJ work, I believe. The Ipod is no doubt, a more convenient way to listen to music. Higher-bandwidth recordings and better encoders can result in some pretty good fidelity for audio compression.

It would take probly 1 Dual Layer DVD. Now on a regular 700MB CD you figure 200 songs per CD thats about 5 CD's. While running or on the bike it would be hard to carry though I wonder if you can listen to the Ipod while doing the DEW

I have just bought a new portable DVD player for the cars to help keep the kid quiet while driving around :nervous: This is one of the best investments. It plays DVD, Kodac, MP3, DIVX, XVID has USB port and other items for it. What is great about the DVD player is it will plug into the stereo via RCA cables and play what I want it to out of the speaker syatem. Try doing that while doing the DEW

The hardest part of my traveling is trying to figure out what songs I want to put on a DVD or CD.

What player will play a dual layer DVD in a car? Some of the newest all-in-one style units with the video screen probably. I have not see any though I have not been shopping for car audio in quite some time now.

Even 5 CDs can be distracting to unload and load while driving (get a CD changer that will play MP3s).

I'm gonna go listen to my iPod while doing the DEW now just for the hell of it!!!

While I agree that a portable DVD player has it's place it's not the right solution for me in this situation. Isn't it wonderful that there are so many products on the market that there's bound to be the right one for everyone's needs/tastes/desires! :cheeky:

I also just want to say that I do have a true iPod so that is my expeience. Though when I say iPod it can be assumed that this is a 'generic' term, much like when people say "hand me a Kleenex" they do not specifically mean that brand it could be Puffs or "I'm going Rollerblading" what they really mean is in-line skating, and as such ANY portable MP3 is acceptable.
