Alfadog Posted September 19, 2006 Share #13 Posted September 19, 2006 I guess control and fear both are addictive, look at roller coasters and fence sales... ROFL
texasz Posted September 22, 2006 Share #14 Posted September 22, 2006 It makes you wonder why so many Ipods are sold, Will. People prefer the convenience and will accept the lesser sound quality to the better. All for the status of owning a toy like the Ipod. And so, I will continue to carry my harp. It has capacity to play an infinite number of songs, has perfectly accurate sound quality, and doesn't need to be loadeded with anything but air... and a little spit maybe. I have over 1000 songs on my iPod, do you have any idea how many CDs I'd have to lug around for this variety!? Furthermore, I can listen to my iPod anywhere...in my car, at the office, while running or moutain biking (try that with a CD!), in the air port, on a plane, in hotel rooms, and the list goes on. It is a convience issue no doubt. And frankly when listening to audio through head phones you will not notice the difference in quality between a CD and am MP3 file due to the limitations of the head phones (read speakers) so why the hell not an MP3 player then. Personally, I have an idea for a playlist (rock music, mood, wakeUP!, sleep, Polkas, etc.,) and I assemble about 20 songs to go with that idea. It sounds like some people will just rip every CD they own to put it on the Ipod.

I can understand the variety/capacity issue, but I can hear the difference in the equipment I have listened to-granted, even the headphones were reasonably good(no earbuds). I usually watch a movie/listen to a cd when I am in or through an airport-my laptop dosen't skip easily. Elsewhere, for the quality, I would just find an FM station that plays "my kind" of music and listen to that, instead of having the investment in time(and money?) to search out, audtion, and download 1000 songs that would (at least in my case) play on the radio anyway. I would rather have control over what plays when I have more enjoyment from how it sounds. Not that an Ipod isn't a valuable addition to the lifestyles of a great many people, but that technology is just not up to my audio standard yet-call me spoiled.... CoastGuardZ Posted September 22, 2006 Share #17 Posted September 22, 2006 On the MP3 disc/playlist topic... If you use Mediaplayer on your PC you can download the v2 Beta of mediaplayer 11 at the microsoft website. I did so about a month ago and have been very pleased with it's useage compared to previous versions. I use it for all of my audio on the PC and you can rate or have it automatically rate all of your stored music. I recently made a disc for the Clarion stereo in the Z and the stipulations you can place on the auto-creation of a playlist are outstanding... for instance the disc I made was... 1) My Rating Is At Least 5 Stars (that's 3 seperate options) 2) Is Not Dido (too mellow for the Z) (two more options) 3) Limit Total Size To 700 mb (one CD worth) (3 more) Then just click on Data CD then Click Burn... It creates and labels all folders and tracks... The Clarion player works great using it this way. The other cool thing is that my CD/MP3/WMA player also has built in flash memory and will retain 130 mins of CDA tracks or at a lesser quality 173 mins. How cool is that? I totally can see the reasoning behind iPod ownership, but I just have no need for one myself. But as previously stated the lack of reproduction capability overcomes the lack of quality in the MP3 format. Nate
TomoHawk Posted September 22, 2006 Author Share #18 Posted September 22, 2006 Keep in mind that you don't have to have a Ipod to play MP3s. There are alternatives to the Ipod for MP3 playing, and they are much more affordable.Nate-How many playlists do you put on a CD?thx

The original question was in relationship to DJ work, I believe. The Ipod is no doubt, a more convenient way to listen to music. Higher-bandwidth recordings and better encoders can result in some pretty good fidelity for audio compression.

It would take probly 1 Dual Layer DVD. Now on a regular 700MB CD you figure 200 songs per CD thats about 5 CD's. While running or on the bike it would be hard to carry though I wonder if you can listen to the Ipod while doing the DEW I have just bought a new portable DVD player for the cars to help keep the kid quiet while driving around :nervous: This is one of the best investments. It plays DVD, Kodac, MP3, DIVX, XVID has USB port and other items for it. What is great about the DVD player is it will plug into the stereo via RCA cables and play what I want it to out of the speaker syatem. Try doing that while doing the DEW The hardest part of my traveling is trying to figure out what songs I want to put on a DVD or CD.

Sorry, I was asking if somebody had experience in making an MP3 disk with playlists that will actually works in one of those newer car stereos. sblake01 Posted September 23, 2006 Share #24 Posted September 23, 2006 You said that already. Did you use playlists?I don't know what you mean by "playlists". I burned it with Nero 6 as an MP3 cd and that's how it came out. It shows the name of the song and the artist for each of the 150 or so tracks as they are playing.
