Posted September 21, 200618 yr comment_183231 OK , I have searched so far, and no luck. I , although be it, 9 years ago, changed the oil in my 72 Z, and after only 3 to 5 miles of driving, get a quart or so of gasoline in the motor oil..... i suspect a bad fuel pump?? i got a new one, but the car isn’t running yet, i need to get some other parts, and try it out. I was just wondering if any one else can give some feedback on this gassy mess. ps. the car at that time was new to me, so I don’t know if i did something to cause this, or if the fuel pump just cra**ed out. being the fuel pump is stuck in the side of the motor and all. thanks . September 21, 200618 yr comment_183234 With that amount of gas in the oil , I think you are right . You might consider going with a electric . Your car is wired for one. Be sure to change the oil and filter right away. Gasoline will rob the oil of all lubricating quality for your engine. September 21, 200618 yr comment_183243 I had a problem with petrol in the oil. Pulled the mech. fuel pump and found a hole on the diaphram. Let the fuel leak straight into the sump. Didn't really notice until one day I parked on a hill and the contents of the fuel tank made it's way into my engine overnight. Filled all the cylinders and everything. Didn't really want to kick over that morning for some reason. September 21, 200618 yr comment_183273 This killed my motor (and I have EFI), Check your compression dry and wet quick. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21654-anyone-else-got-gas-in-the-oil/#findComment-183273 Share on other sites
September 22, 200618 yr comment_183376 You should also check you mixture. I was having the same problem because mine was running too rich. Unfortunately, I don't know if the PO knew about it and by the time I got the car, the engine needed to be rebuilt. Definitely check the compression. September 22, 200618 yr comment_183414 likemyz , I just had another thought . I was finding gas in the oil when I was running 27 needles, way too rich . The oil was fowl smelling and dirtied vary quickly. Switched to 54 and all is great now. 3K on the oil and it is clean still and no smell . I am running electronic ignition and NGK plugs and the engine is running clean now. September 23, 200618 yr Author comment_183439 Good notes on the problem, I appreciate the inputs. I changed the fuel pump today, although the car is still not in running condition yet, and to my surprise, the lower of the three attachment devices to hold the fuel pump onto the motor is a bolt, and I see now this bolt, has "stripped" the threads out from the hole that this bolt is supposed to go into. now, I have 2 ideas, first is to get a tap, or a die, and twist this thing a tad larger, and the 2nd idea is to try to put the bolt in reverse, so from the inside of the motor, and coming out, so I can put a nut on it from the outside. i would prefer the first option, but think i might get some metal shavings inside the motor, unless i can stuff a rag in there to hold out all the bad things, so they don’t go into the motor. Let me know if you all have any ideas, or know something that surely is to work in this. I am sure I don’t have to replace the whole head.-CP- Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21654-anyone-else-got-gas-in-the-oil/#findComment-183439 Share on other sites

September 23, 200618 yr comment_183479 do i need this part,. mine broke off, and i cant seem to find a replacement.I have temporarily bypassed this piece with a tube of coolant heater hose. thanks:classic:this is a thermostat controlling the temp in the intake . I never had one of these on my engine since I have owned my Z , and no problem so far after this long. As to the fuel pump bolt holes with stripped threads . I recommend taking the car to a mechanic and have a Helicoil installed . I believe this is the best remedy. Shouldn't be vary costly at all .
