July 6, 200222 yr comment_10013 Alfadog, do you agree with me that there are probably many Z cars still being used that are in WORSE condition than the car these guys cut up?In fact, there are MANY cars here in the UK that would be embarrassed to park up next to that shell!I think all of that damage, and what rust there was, could have been repaired very simply. These people can't ever have seen a REALLY rusted out Z body.......................How come they seem so smug about it all!?Alan T. July 6, 200222 yr comment_10014 /rantOMG!I would have loved to get my hands on that shell! Compared to the parts car I've got that coupe was rust free!I'll be posting pic on here when I dismantle and cut up a 260Z 2+2 but it has som much rust in the roof/sills that given a good down poor I'll be in a convertable! Why not use one like that? Couldn't they have used a rust bucket? Or something that isn't a classic? Man, what a waste or a reasonable shell, and after giving in the once over they could have at least shown some remorse! Instead of ending the page with, ' that was a bit of fun'/end rantAnyway, *deep breath* I fine, really....R. July 6, 200222 yr comment_10019 Me thinks we have just witnessed what happens when a person is too lazy to do a little repair work. I'd have fixed it, it sure looked better than a couple I've had to send off to the crusher, and certainly looks better than the parts car I have now. Even a lowly 260 deserved better than that in the shape it looked to be in. Shame on the wimps. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2168-warning-may-offend-z-owners/#findComment-10019 Share on other sites

July 6, 200222 yr comment_10025 Well, that's a good question. Most people consider the 260 as a less than desirable Z because they were only made for one year in two different engine configurations. One was a PITA as the 73's were with the carb problems, and the rest were built as an intro to the 280. Neither is bad IMO, but I'd prefer the carb'd version. Guess the 260 doesn't have much of a following here in the states, as it wasn't offered long enough in either version for people to form an opinion of their merits or minuses. For those "down under", the 260 has a whole different following since they were offered for many years until the ZX was introduced. Here in the states it is often scoffed at since it is neither a 240 or a 280. This one was a shame as it looks to be an early version with the small bumpers. I noticed one thing, hardly any rust under the battery tray! Would have at least made a good car to sell for parts instead of hacking it away for fun. Should have used an old Pinto or Vega if they just wanted to destroy a car! Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2168-warning-may-offend-z-owners/#findComment-10025 Share on other sites

And not to be contentious, but I'd be able to pay for my bodywork right now if I had a dollar for everytime I heard: "Just strip your car and then get yerself a nice shell, don't bother trying to fix it" . These guys were just following this often-repeated homily of conventional Z wisdom. The same wisdom that - ahem - contends that the 260 is the lowliest of 1stgen Zs to own. January 19, 201114 yr comment_342693 Hey, I happened to stumble upon this discussion the other day.I know it was from 8 years ago! But, I am the guy who cut up that 260Z shell, now over 15 years ago. The digital cameras were not great back then, I can assure you that the frame of that Z was in very bad shape, and it had been in an accident. In hindsight, perhaps someday someone would have liked that shell. In 1995, I could not give it away, and the only way to dispose of it was to cut up and scrap it. If you see all the other Z's I have had in my life, please understand this was not an easy thing to do.In fact, I actually rescued that Z from a guy name Stef who had crashed it. I stripped it and sold and gave away its parts for many years after that...So, the rest of the story...Garywww.z-car.comwww.z-car.com/blog Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/2168-warning-may-offend-z-owners/#findComment-342693 Share on other sites
