Need Advice

Thanks in advance for any intimate Z advice!

There's a 1978 280z that I want to buy - it's half way across the US. It will be my 3rd z - my first two were in the early 80s (and I vowed I'd have another!)

Here's what i know:

no accidents

2 owners

ac is fine

new tires

new clutch

garaged, warm weather since birth

new paint job

4-speed,with modified CAM

high performance exhaust

157,000 miles

$7980

what else do I need to know, ask, etc that's particular to this year and model?

Unless that car is in great shape, that seems high. Since it is across the country, why not get a member who is local to the car to check it out for you?

I have a car thats cheaper than that for sale and is probly in better condition. Mine is a 76 280Z and it has been keep garaged most of its life. I only want 3500 to 4000 for mine. I have even put some nice mods on it.

Where across the country is it?

Yes, that price definietly seems more than a bit on the high side. Maybe by as much as $3000-4000 dollars. Without seeing it it's hard to say for sure but considering that it is a later model with high mileage, and assuming it's clean, I'd start at $4000 and go from there. Personally, I wouldn't go a cent over $6000 and it would have to be in extremely good condition with absolutely no rust (hidden under fresh paint) or otherwise.

Oh yeah....take your time and find the right one. Don't be in a rush or you'll wind up paying too much or getting more then you bargained for.

I'd have to agree with the others that a modded 280Z (cam, exhaust) with high mileage (157k) and a 4 speed rather than a 5 speed seems somewhat overpriced at roughly $8K. At that price I wouldn't even consider buying it without seeing it in person.

Too high by a lot, unless it's located in a part of the country where all Zs are rusty, and this one is verified absolutely rust free. More on this from my experience soon...

Yes, I did some other research and thought that might be rather high myself. I came across a company www.automobileinspections.com - one that's used by collector's and museums and far more comprehensive than anything else I found - and late last night, ordered an inspection.

It's about 150+ points and costs $350, but I can cancel for a refund anytime up until the guy actually leaves to go do it - probably Friday or Monday. In view of y'alls replies......

As for the one that's for sale....is that the chocolate brown? That's the exterior color that has always been my first choice, but I've never been able to find it, so did maroon, then that beautiful, sort of metallic, blue. This one's black. What else is going on with yours? Interior? Mileage? 4 or 5 speed?

oops - oh wait. the one that 280 Master has for sale - it's light blue. The name of the dealer is Brown. Oh well. Did they make these in red or have the ones I've seen been painted?
