Going to Pick up my new shell Friday

Okay, so I've been whining about the condition of my current project (12-70 Series I). Everywhere I look there's rust and rust on top of that. My welder friend has had health problems so none of the repairs I thought I'd have done this spring/summer were accompished. Went and cut out the passenger floorpan and rust kept going up the firewall.

So, I advertised here for a better shell -- although the ad in the wanted section didn't get me results, the ad for the 280ZX here and eBay seems to have. One of our club members (a self-described infrequent poster) noticed that I shared the same home town as his brother and gave me a call. He has several Zs including a black (7-70) Series I shell (actually a whole car w/ engine & tranny, condition unknown) that he would sell me for the $600 he had in it. It seems he bought it to transfer parts from his lil' Red Z that was hit by another driver. After he bought it tho he found a clean Series 1 in Oregon and bought that.

Anyway, I'll post some photos here and you guys tell me what you think. The floorpans are solid (altho the pass. side has had a repair) no major rust anywhere (rear quarters, rear hatch, etc.) except for the eaten battery box area and one bad area in the dogleg by the rocker. My old Series I had horrible rust in all these areas and more. By the time I replaced all the necessary panels it would have probably had more new metal than old. The front fenders on the shell are beautiful. The paint is not in very good shape and the interior is bad, but I have all the interior pieces to fix that. I think this will work much better for my rebuilt L28 F54 I posted pics of last week.

I hate to part with my first Z project, but will be stripping off every usable part to blend with my nicer shell. If after I get this accomplished and anyone wants the old shell I'll probably just give it away, however I'm keeping the repair panels that I don't need to sell off on eBay to pay for parts (suspension, brakes, etc.) that I will need. This new shell is black, but I will be painting it something else. With the old shell that was 905 red I felt my decision was made for me -- stick to the original color. With the new shell I am torn between red, silver gray and white, not quite up to the yellow car club. Red is great, but a cop magnet, silver can look fantastic and white is easy to keep clean looking and matches my pickup. Decisions, decisions.

Right now I'm curious to try and ferret out the original color, I'm sure I'll find it hiding behind one of the panels, or showing thru the not so good black paint job. I'm a little leary about trailering it from the Seattle area to Oroville over the pass, but will be looking at it as an adventure. Here's a picture link, currently waiting approval.
