off to the body shop??

I HEAR GUYS SAY, well, I am off to the frame shop, or, oh yea, my local welder put the floor pans in, ect, ect.

Well, I don’t seem to know any frame guys, welder guys, "Z" guys, or any paint guys.

My town has, from what I see no special interest guys at all. Only the usual suspects, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, and in Ct. Bob Sharp Nissan, good old #33 if you all know what that means. Sharp Nissan told me, even though Bob Sharp won several races in the 70's with his Z, they don’t do work on them.......

Any direction, or suggestions for either paint guys, frame, and or rust repair guys, or a place to get info would be great. I live in south Salem, New York, 10 minutes from ct. zip code 10590.

If not, I will start calling around, and I guess help is only through word of mouth.

Two thoughts:

1) Hook up with a local car club, and ask them where they get their body work done. Z Association of New York is probably a good start. Or, any hot rod, classic/vintage or even tuner car club will have some advice.

2) Wolf Creek Racing is from up that way, and they race Datsuns....maybe they have some leads?

Do some legwork, call some folks, ask questions and check references.

I do suspect if you want Enrique, Beandip and others to show, have Sydney Moon come down for a photo shoot/signing(Drooling) at the end of the weekend for those who truely participated-there would be a fight for who was first in line...but they would be there with out the free beer, food, and hooters babes...Hell, I might take the trip...You would probably fill up a local hotel with admirers...uh, help...

The question is how much money are you able to spend? I lucked out and befriended a body shop owner down the street who gives me free use of his booth. I've learned from him that specialty work comes at a price. He's a reasonable guy but would charge a hefty price to be bothered by anything more than stuff that can be bolted on. There was a time when bodyworkers saved panels. Nowdays it is cheaper to replace panels, etc than to massage or patch things up.

What I'm trying to say is that most shops don't have the time to play with time consuming projects unless you are ready to pay a premium price. (It's actually a fair price for them considering toady's labor costs/shop space utilization) It would be cheaper for you to buy a compressor and MIG welder and do it yourself. Sell the equipment on Ebay or something when you're done and recoup your money.

What do you need done on the car? If you want to spend a weekend in sunny Florida replacing floor pans/rotted areas I'm game. I've got a plasma cutter, MIG, TIG, every air tool made by man, machine shop, etc, etc. Just make sure that you show up with new materials ready to install. This offer really goes out to anyone in a pinch with their Z. I remember what it was like working on the Z 17 years ago with minimal tools. Fortunately someone was nice enough to loan me the more expensive stuff such as a compressor. I'll never forget that and feel that it is only right to extend the favor to others. What goes around comes around.
