Faulty Fuel Pump

Hi all,

For those of you that may remember, I had some starting issues at the beginning of the summer. We had a really crappy summer up here in New England and I haven't had much time to work on the car at all. Now that fall is approaching I'm trying to get the car started before the cold months really settle in.

Turns out the injectors weren’t getting any fuel, I squirted starting fluid into the air cleaner and "voila" she started. I can't hear the electric fuel pump come on when the key is in the "on" position before I turn it further to the "start" position. here's the question: am I supposed to hear the fuel pump click on before the car starts or does it come on only when the motor is turning? If it is supposed to be on before the car actually starts, where does the power source come from that drives it.

In other words where do I check (besides the terminals on the pump) to see if it's getting juice? Is there a special fuse designated for the fuel pump? Could it be blown? I don't see the words: "fuel pump" in the fuse box.

the fuel pump is controlled by the air flow meter. meaning that it will only run when the motor is being turned over.after the car fires, the alternator keeps the fuel pummp running till the engine is shut off. they wired the fuel pump to shut off in case of an accident, so it wouldn't spray fuel all over the place. the wire that leads from the battery to the fuel injector control unit has two fusible links in it that control the fuel pump, as the fuel pump is wired into this harness, it is also fused by this link. you could also remove the fuel pump and bench test it to see if that is the cuplrit. hope this helps
