Posted October 8, 200618 yr comment_185136 hey gang...I am getting an L26 with a 4-Speed that runs good. I will be dropping it into my 280 to get it up and running quickly while I save $ to rebuild my L28 the way I want it. I don't know much about the differences between these engines except the obvious. Can anyone tell me what issues I may need to deal with when I install? October 8, 200618 yr comment_185137 It depends on whether or not you are running carbs or FI. If going to run carbs you'll be fine, you'll just have to adjust them to run well with the L26. If you are trying to run FI, you will more than likely run very rich due to the change in displacement. October 8, 200618 yr comment_185140 The L26 doesn't have the notch outs for the fuel injectors so you'd be better putting in the whole engine if the carbs work. Although the stock L26 carbs are not very desireable. The compression on the L26 maybe a little lower. October 8, 200618 yr Author comment_185141 I'll be running the stock carbs on the L26. I am going to be running MegaSquirt FI on my L28 eventually. October 9, 200618 yr comment_185196 you will have to change out the FI fuel pump, way to much pressure, and all the regulators I have seen are not designed to handle that much pressure, you can always bypass it and run the mechanical pump! you only need 3 to 5 psi! Have done this same swap in my 77 running trip webers! you can check ut my gallery! you can also leave all the 280 FI wiring in place just tuck it out of the way if you intend on using it later! October 9, 200618 yr Author comment_185229 what about hooking up the tach? is the tach signal the same for the FI wiring and the older ignition? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21851-putting-l26-into-my-280/#findComment-185229 Share on other sites
October 9, 200618 yr comment_185267 Use the EFI distributor, coil, etc. from the L28 and you shouldn't have any problems with the tach. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21851-putting-l26-into-my-280/#findComment-185267 Share on other sites
