Mark,

Mark,

PLEASE do not misunderstand me….. I am not, and neither is anyone else I am sure, offended by the fact that you purchased your new baby. Quite the contrary, I am very happy for you. Having owned two 911’s including a Turbo and currently owning a Z06 Vette I understand perfectly well the sensation you are experiencing. My point is simple, or so I thought, and that is what you had was a truly unique car and the route you were on in modifying it would have made it into a contemporary sports car able to run, stop and turn with the best of them. I drive my Z06 and, yes, it is nice. With 505 hp on tap I’ll hit 60 in about 3.8 seconds, turn on a dime and stop so quick it even scares me. But, I get out of the vette and say to myself, nice car.

Drive my Z and something happens to me…. I get goose bumps just listening to my carbs, no a/c, no cruise control, no Bose stereo, no electric this and that, just pure driving pleasure. Stop for gas and inevitably a crowd gathers. All kinds of questions and conversations develop not about how much it costs but the car itself. Stop at a number of traffic lights and someone is bound to role their window down and say, “Hey, you wanna sell it?” “ Had one in high-school should’ve never sold it…. “ Real Beauty, Congrats!” Stuff like this never, ever, happened in my Porsche- never in the Vette and it was one of the first C6 Z06 around here.

But I digress. The simple fact of the matter is that you are happy and nothing else matters and as I said, I am happy for you.

George,

Thanks for the feedback. I definately know what you mean. The Z (or any classic car) can be defined as either rare or unique. Anyone (with money) can go to a dealership and buy a nice car, but with a classic you need to either create it or "find it". That becomes more of a challenge. And yes, when you are in a classic, there is a feeling of accomplishment, especially if you did the work yourself.

I am sure one day i will get the "itch" to find myself another classic.

For now, i am enjoying the marvels of German engineering and living out my boyhood dream.

Hey ZIII,

Couldn't have said it better myself. Mark, enjoy what you have, when you have it. BTW, you're Z was really nice!

ZIII, I've got a 66 Mustang and a Viper as well as my Z. Nothing compares to the Z and the Mustang. Maybe it's an age thing, but the grin on my face when I get out after a drive in either is priceless. They are just plain fun to drive.

Frankly, the Viper just makes my blood pressure go up. Someone is always trying to race me, people ride in the blind spot looking at it, and the ride is bumpy as heck and I'm on edge the whole time trying to handle the beast.

And you're right about the comments. I rarely get comments on the Viper, but the Z and Mustang draw attention wherever they go. In fact, it's sometimes hard not to be impolite when people come up to look at them when I'm in a hurry.

So, enjoy what you have when you have it. When you're tired of it, get something else. Enjoy the ride!!!

Bob

Congrats Mark. I have always wanted a Porsche 911, but the ones I like are just too far out of my price range to be practical as a second car. I considered buying one prior to buying the Z, but it wasn't one of the models I really like, and I just couldn't justify the expense. I think yours look great and I love the baseball glove interior as well, but them I'm impartial. Enjoy the dream.

Hey Mark. Congrats on your new 911. I should have been on the forum earlier so I could have checked out your former 240z. I just bought mine yesterday and Im probably local (also live in Lafayette near Happy Valley elementary school). I need some parts for the car and was wondering if you still had extra you mind selling? Anyways hope to see you around and with another z.
