I Need help evaluating my 240z

This is request to the Z Gurus out there,

I have a 1st gen 240z in good condition, I'm considering selling it and want to see if a fair price is worth breaking my heart. Sadly while I love her she has been spending more time in my garage ...and less time on the road.

Stats: vin HLS30-00387

Engine: block serial number matches the firewall, it runs well but can't say if the speedo milage is accurate, or how to evaluate if the enging has had any major work done in the past. Are there any things to look for that will say if things are in proper order? (or not proper order).

I have been told the rear end is set to the original 90 degree angle to the half shafts and needs moved back a few inches to reduce vibration. This seems to be a standard alteration that has not been performed on this car yet. Also it has the 4 speed tranny. (not sure if this is good or bad.)

Interior is good but some areas are carpet...not original vinyl.

Seats are recovered with original look alikes and new foam from Motorsport.

This car is in good working condition but has some....lets be nice and say non original 1970 parts. All the parts are from Zs but some look to me to be later models such as 72/73. The paint is non-original color, and its missing a few interior parts like plastic covers behind the seats. Dash has the standard crack from the speedo back.

Any input or thoughs on how to fairly evaluate this car would be helpful.

I have been watching Ebay and a few other sites and have seen a few really nice 70/71's but nothing first 500.

Thanks for your input.

That's a nice car. I like the color even if it isn't original. I wouldn't change anything, unless it puts it back to more stock because it is such an early example. I am sure you would do very well selling it on eBay. You need to describe whether there are any rust problems as that's what most of us worry about, but it looks well maintained. Was it once in Colorado? I see it was registered on the Classic Z Car registry in April 1999 by Bob Smith. I am sure there are people here that can give you some very good advice. Good luck, sorry you have to let her go.

The more pictures the better! Checking out an early vin car for a serious restoration is more involved to those who want her for modification and daily use-though some people will buy an early vin example as long a the rust has managed to hold the data plates on...(and rightfully so Chris!) To get the most, put her back as clost to original as possible, but anyone doing a serious restoration will be replacing anything with any wear anyway, so I would concentrate your efforts on a thorough blurb supported by as many pictures as possable. Get the car on ramps or a rack and photgraph every square inch of her underside, and arrange to be able to meet prospective buyers for a serious looksee for a good portion of the auction, and you should attract bidders who know buying a great starting point is less expensive than putting one together-those who can and will pay for the right car.

As far as rust I know only of the battery tray and the rocker panels being hot spots, where else should I direct my camera? I can see a few small paint bubbles on one side rocker panel. approx size of a large finger print. Yes the car spent time in Colorado, it was my fathers, he spen time, energy, and $$ on the car for a while, but it spent all its time in the garage I dont think I ever saw him drive it in the years he had it. When I got it the tank was contaminated and needed cleaned and sealed. The carbs were varnished shut also, I ended up finding a new su set from a local shop.
