Posted October 11, 200618 yr comment_185513 I have the oportunity to buy a 3:9 from a ZX and the 4:11 from a 200sxt very cheap...but I need to know which is my better option for a daily ride and occasionally hard driven car????as well as the effects in the car, such as fuel consumption, launching power, top speed and rpm????it is good idea to add a maxima head (n47) to this package?thanks for the suggestions!!! October 11, 200618 yr comment_185516 Overall gearing difference between a 3.90 and 4.11 is only 5%. I see you have a 5 speed in your Z so, either would be OK. Of course tire diameter will certainly effect gearing. In my 1970 with a ZX 5 speed, 235-40x17" rear tires, and 4.10 LSD R200.....@ 70 mph the engine (N42) is turning approximately 3000 rpm. With 3.90 gear I would be turning approximately 2850 rpm. Hope this helps a bit?Tom Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/21893-39-or-411/#findComment-185516 Share on other sites
October 12, 200618 yr comment_185580 I installed a 4.11 in the early 70's when I was running an L24... and auto-crossing on the weekends. Around 1980 I swapped in an L28 with the 5spd....Given the far greater torque of the L28... I'd rather have the 3.9 or even the 3.7... the L28 has the torque to easily pull the taller gears...Your better option for a "daily ride" would be the 3.9...For performance it depends on how strong your engine is at lower RPM's...Carl B.
