Everyone seems to be overstepping the mark.

With the exception of John Coffey's 8 points, Austen's questions were answered in the first few posts.

To me, ... he comes across as a young bloke who may not have a lot of experience in driving at all, let alone in speed trials and what have you. Does he even have a licence yet???

Surely he needs to have gained SOME experience behind the wheel before he's ready for the track.

Austen, enrol in a defensive driving course and, if there's a Z Car club in your area, join it.

Agreed Rick and I am as guilty as anyone with regard to your post although I would add that Austen did search further and found some additional on topic advice which he posted in reply #17.

Quote from Austen in #17

"Alright guys, check out this link, I'd like to hear what you have to say about these driving tips on how to drive your Z.

I thought that these tips in the link were on topic, and a concise summary worthy of consideration.

Well Dave,

As the saying goes, you have to crawl before you can walk.

I just feel that Austen was receiving information that he may not be ready for. Too much too soon can be very confusing.

You know as well as i do that someone experiencing their first time behind the wheel can be very easily confused. I had more than my share of heart stopping experiences training novices to drive, especially in the old 2 1/2 ton Mk3's and 4's and the 5 ton F1's. Rather funny in retrospect but nearly a case of changing the underpants at the time.ROFL

Well now,

Austen, I'm very pleased to hear that you had the maturity to do the bike training course. You have your license????? GREAT. Now all you need is EXPERIENCE. If obtaining a driver's license is as easy to get in the U.S. as it is here, then one years driving experience without a ticket or a prang is a damn good start. Cap it off with that Defensive Drivers Course mate.

Rick.
