Transporting my Z

troubledz

Recommended Posts

Hey, maybe someone can help with this.. I just bought a 240 Z in Florida, I live in Toronto, Ontario,Canada. I was going to originaly drive the Z for 1200 miles. Not really sure I want to do this when i don't know the cars history!

With the weather changing and the limited time i have I might just transport it..

I looked up a few transport companys it seems that it would be a ton cheaper if i ship it to a address in the US,Buffalo,NY(BORDERS AND ALL).This is where i need some help. Do any one of you live in Buffalo or upper NY? That I can ship the car to your place and pick it up there? I live in Toronto and it would only be a few hour drive from there. I would be shipping it from Trapon Springs Florida.

If anyone could please help with this.. it would be Great!!.

I am still new to this forum and the few queations i have asked, well lets just say overwhelmed with the info i got.. This site is AWESOME!!

Cheers, Dean

I sent you a PM about the importing. I looked into shipping last year too. Its cheaper to ship to NY, yes...BUT then you gotta either drive it back, or flatbed it back. If you plan on driving it back then it might be a better deal but if you factor in hauling from NY back to T.O., then it might be easier and cheaper to just get it shipped to Toronto.

i shipped my zed from maine to canada ( 1 hour east of windsor) in spring 2004. i couldn't find a U S company to do it. had to use a canadian company- mackie moving systems. $1000 U S right to my door ( plus admin fee, brokerage fee and fuel surcharge). the exchange rate is a lot better now than in 2004, so should be cheaper maybe. plus you gotta pay 14% tax at customs. you have to pay this anyway whether you ship or drive it across. i got my seller to make out a bill of sale for half what i paid. no problem with customs. just don't get greedy and go too low. ( like a porche for $500) mine was enclosed trailer. open trailer is a little cheaper i think. check it out. just google the moving company, ask ?.

If you have the time Troubled, rent a flat bed trailer from U-Haul and bring her home yourself. You'll of course need a vehicle capable of towing, but your only expenses will be gas, time and the trailer rental. That is how I brought mine home. Got the neighbor to go with me and we made a road trip out of it. If I remember correctly the trailer was only like $49.00 for a weekend. Beer and gas for the Tahoe was a bit more, LOL!

Congrats on your purchase. Post up some pics when you get her.

Love the Cobra too! What's she hiding under that skirt?

Dean ,I had my Z picked up in Pittsburg and delivered just north of Toronto to my driveway last Febuary all paper work and border taxes taken care of.All I had to do was safety and transfer . GST is paid at the border PST at the licence office. Photo copy of ownership to the border, original with the car plus abill of sale from the registered owner ,no B.S. I recieved quotes of 1900 plus dollars from Mackie plus extra for loose parts.Call Kirk Lewis @705- 454-3753 as he trailered mine back round trip very reasonable. I,ve also heard Oakwood Transport is very reasonable but the car will be dropped off at a brokerage depot Dixie-401 area where you perform customs clearance paperwork and fees
