Probably the value of the appraisal for his stated value insurance.

Will

Yes, that's what I figured. However, wouldn't you want the stated value as high as possible? My stated value is also based on an appraisal. It doesn't seem right to try and sell it for $6100 more. If it's truly worth that much more why didn't the seller try and get it insured for more?

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread.

With Farmers, you can insure the car for more than the appraisal. However, if you have a loss claim they'll only pay off the appraised dollar value. Makes no sense to me.

I'm getting ready to insure my car through this process and my Agent explained that if the appraisal came in higher than the typical car of that model/year, the appraisal may be scrutinized and may have to be adjusted.

I don't like any of this and will be looking into other options. Anyone have any suggestions or is this the way it is?

Bruce -- search the threads with "Hagerty" in them for lots of info on classic car insurance. What you want is an "Agreed Value" policy.

Jeremy, I see what you're saying and understand the difference between value and what I have into it. The insurance companies can under-value these cars unless the owner goes to the trouble of having an appraisal done and/or gets a stated value policy.

Thanks Doug, I'll do some homework with Hagerty and see how that looks.

280zx-R buy it now $25,000

Snip-There is a parking-lot crease in the driver side door in the black decal area courtesy of some idiot. There are small areas of rust under the windshield air vent, near the fuel filler cap and under the left tail light assembly. The bottom seams of both doors are, typically enough, rusted out.

TYPICAL? I've got a 79 as well, one that live where snow is present, and my doors are fine.

This guy is either dreaming, or going through the motions of trying to sell, knowing full well he won't.

I will say this for the seller, he does fess up to some other issues as well, like old gas and tires, but all these should have been dealt with prior to listing. 25 grand for a car you CANNOT drive home? I think not.

I hate to say it but this guy needs take the money he used to post his ad and go buy a clue. If he had a drove home from the dealer, parked in a tempeture controlled enviroment garage then he might get $20K for it....but in the condition that car is in, 5K tops.
