What electrical connections need made in order to start the engine?

I've had the engine rebuilt in my 1970 240Z and want to try and start it without having to install the dash and make all the other electrical connections. I took the car down to a metal shell to address any rust issues so there's nothing hooked up in the cabin except the ignition & fuse box. The only other connections that have been made are in the engine compartment.

ALso, I when i hooked up the battery, the positive cable and the ground cable to the firewall got hot. Any ideas on what I've hooked up incorrectly or it it related to not having everything else hooked up.

If your cables got hot means you got a major ground someplace. or the starter is shot and was just running current through it. If you got power to the dizzy and the starter she should fire. it is what we used to call hot wiring when I was a kid. you got electric or mechanical fuel pump?? I think mechanical. pour a tablespoon of gas down the carberutor get started quicker.

The power to the coil and dizzy go through the tach. It either has to be in or jumpered if you are using the engine wire harness.

You need to make sure the hot lead coming from the fusable link is isolated, sounds like it may be touching something inside the car it is a white wire needs to be isolated also the red white wire both will end up at the amphere meter.
