240z vs. Fairlady

I was wondering if someone could explain to me what the differences are between a Fairlady Z and a 240z. I could tell the difference between the two because I know that the Fairladys have the mears on the front fenders when the 240's have them on the doors but I'm sure that there is more to this than I know. Thanks, have always wondered what the differences were!

Well...for the most part, these responses and your mirror observation are correct, but the full answer to your question is a long, drawn out explanation of what was sold where - world wide. What was imported into the United States was known as the Datsun 240Z. America did not get the full line of models developed for the S30 and many of them, including the cars sold in Japan, were right-hand drive. Early Fairladys had a 2.0 liter engine as opposed to the 2.4 liter engine America got. The Fairlady 432 and 432-R got the S20 engine. Later Fairladys got the 2.4 and 2.8 liter engines. So you see that the answer is really worth searching the archives for. I might also recommend the book; " Datsun Z - Fairlady to 280Z" by Brian Long.

Fairlady if you are talking about S30, they did NOT got 2.8liter.

L28 wasn't until 280Z (which is S130).

Remember, 240Z can also be a Fairlady (Fairlady 240Z or Datsun 240Z).

:finger:

The 280Z IS an S30, the 280ZX ( a completely different car:eek: ) is an S130.

Both the 280Z and the 280ZX had 2.8liter engines and all of the S30s and S130s are essentially drive train interchangeable:love:.
