Dash Harness Connection Questions: Part 1

Recently, I removed my dashboard to replace a somewhat hacked up wiring harness with a good original harness (and correct P/N's 24013-E4650 and 24013-E4651 for my production date of 11/70 and manual transmission). At the time of removal, I numbered all of the connectors that were OEM (forgive my rudimentary tape system shown in the pics) for transferral to the new harness. However, there was some wiring on the old harness that was spliced into and some that was not connected. The dash is back in the car with good results (car starts and runs, multifunction and turn signal functions all work, flasher works, foglights work, etc).

But, I need help making a few final connections.

First Photo Below: At question are two fusible links and a "T" connector to the right of the transmission tunnel. The fusible link on the left with the tape attached is a female bullet connector. What does this attach to?

The fusible link on the right is a female spade connector. What does this attach to?

At the top of the photo is a plastic "T" connector - 2 wires - Black w/ white and Green. What does this connect to?

Second Photo Below: The two wires in question here are again from the dash harness center area, emerging to the right of the transmission tunnel (assuming I routed them correctly).

The top wire is a Blue Female bullet connector. What does this attach to?

Below the blue female bullet connector is a Red w/black Female spade connector. What does this attach to?

Third Photo Below: In question are three wires which are part of the fan control switch to blower motor sub-harness. (My routing may not be correct on these?)

Far left - Blue Female Bullet connects to?

Black wire with fork terminal connects to?

Red Male Bullet connects to?

1st photo:

T connector is the connection point for an in-line fuse holder to fuse an Electric Fuel Pump (which your car did NOT come with). The location of that pump would be back by the gas tank, and would likely only have been installed if your car demonstrated vapor lock problems some time in the past (this was one of the repairs the dealers were advised to try).

The 2 in-line fuse holders:

One is more than likely for the Heater Blower motor and the other is more than likely for the radio. Open them up, if there is a funny "fuse" with copper wire wrapped around it inside, that's the one for the radio. That "fuse" is an electronic noise suppressor.

2nd photo:

The only R/B wire I find in the schematics as being anywhere near that area is the one going to the Reverse Switch, but that would be inside the tranny tunnel. I'll have to keep looking for that one.

The Blue wire ~might~ be the other side of the other blue wire in the 3rd photo. There are several blue wires in that area, some of which weren't used.

In the 3rd photo, for example the blue wire you're showing is only for the A/C portion of the circuitry, which you may or may not have had installed. Most cars simply do NOT use this at all.

The Black is part of the ground for the open wire resistor in the Heater Blower housing, that should be grounded to the dash or to the dash support.

The Red wire should receive power from one of the Blue fuses in picture one.

Anyone out there with a Series I - 11/70 build please chime in.

Gary, my red car is all assembled, so I can't see these on it. But the heater console is not in the yellow car (10/70), and the parts car's dash and harness (4/71) are in the spare bedroom, so here's what I found.

Photo 1 - Blue inline fuses (not fusible links, BTW). It looks like the one with the spade is for the rear defroster switch. The bullet is for the heater fan (see red bullet in photo 3). The 'T' connector is the optional fuel pump wiring.

Photo 2 - I can't find a red/black with a spade on it in either of mine. In the yellow car, the blue bullet is marked as the map light power.

Photo 3 - Blue is unused. Black is grounded via one of the phillips screws inside the dash. Red connects to the blue bullet inline fuse (see photo 1 above).

My dash wiring is still in tact and the wires on the right side are as follows:

The t connector with two wires Black w/ white and Green is stowed and not used.

Red black wire with spade connector goes to the defog switch in the console.

First blue wire with inline fuse with spade is the power wire going to the defog switch in the console.

Second blue wire with inline fuse and bullet connector goes to power the fan switch and fan motor it connects to a red wire common to the wire harness between the fan motor and switch behind the radio.

Look and see if the red wire on the left side goes to the fan switch harness if it does that wire connects to the second blue wire above.

The blue wire on the left side is stowed and not used.

The black wire is aground and connected to the dash common to the rear radio mount bolt on the left side.

Okay Enrique, Arne and Jim, thank you all for your responses. I think this addresses my current round of questions. Two devices are still not working, the heater blower and the radio. I can see some other questions coming up in the near future, but I'll post them at the appropriate time.

Arne, it took me a while to realize that the color of the car in your avatar has changed. I clicked on your homepage link and read the story. Mister, between the story of the Z hubcaps and the red car (not to mention Deanna's tolerance of this wacky hobby!), you are leading some kind of charmed life. Congratulations! And please, the next time one of these gems falls into your lap and you are alerting your fellow Oregon and Washington Z enthusiasts, count me in as one who'd be interested!!!
