Wiper Replacement

I am new to the forum (and to having a Z) and embarrased by this stupid question, but I have to ask it.

I have a '76Z car. How do I change the wipers? I am scared about breaking the arms and am running out of patience.

Thanks for any assistance

Welcome! You kept the question from being stupid by asking it!

You can replace just the inserts, or the entire blade assembly. If your car has double wire frames holding the inserts, then they are original, and I would keep them(or at least save them).

At one end of the inserts there should small clip, if you squeeze it, the entire inset should pull free-however, to make things easier on you, remove the assembly where it meets the arm by flexing the clip that holds the assembly to the arm. In the underside there is a spring loaded lever, pry it out slightly, and the arm will seporate, and you can work on replacing the insert in a place that is more comfortable and less likely to cause a paint issue if you slip and you become familiar with the process. It isn't difficult, it is just unfamiliar.

I've been using Silicone blades since they came out-they absolutley do not weater, and will not scratch or haze a windshield no matter how much grit, sand, or glass polishing compound is on it. The are garanteed for the life of the car as well.
